Has The Draw Against Southampton Highlighted Liverpool’s Weaknesses From This Season?

It was yet another disappointing day for the fans of Liverpool F.C., as their team couldn’t get the job done against a Southampton side that was visiting Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Jurgen Klopp and his players knew the importance of all three points on the day, as they look to ensure a finish in the top four of the Premier League, with Arsenal and Manchester United set to play, later in the evening.

However, things did not go as per plan and the Merseyside outfit, failed to really impress at home, with the Saints managing to hold them for a 0-0 draw.

James Milner had the best chance in the match to give his side the lead, though he messed it up from the spot, as the visitors held on.

After a rare chance created at either end, Jack Stephens was eventually penalized for a handball inside the box in the 64th minute of the game.

However, unfortunately, the former England international failed to convert and it continued to remain goalless.

The game was a crucial one for the Reds, who are now on 70 points, after 36 games, with their fierce rivals right on their tail, in the race to secure a Champions League spot.

The Red Devils travel to the Emirates to take on Arsene Wenger’s side, with Jose Mourinho looking to add to his win record against the French boss.

After such a dull day in the office for Klopp and his team, they would be hoping that their domestic rivals produce a draw as well.

It is clear that Claude Puel’s side had employed a well planned strategy, in which they blocked the main Kop stars from getting the ball in space and creating chances.

The Saints let some of the players, who are not that good on the ball run around a bit more, while they stuck to their targets.

This is the weakness for Liverpool, that without their influential stars, like Firmino, Coutinho and a few others being well involved in the game, their other players have no idea what to do.

It has been clearly highlighted and exposed and hopefully Klopp can help his young talented lot, play better as a unit in the days to come.
