If you take a look at the various Arsenal social media accounts, there is a question going around a lot amongst the club’s fans of the north London giants. The Gooners have this one thought on their minds at this moment, whether or not Daniel Sturridge will move to the Emirates this summer. The Premier League giants have been linked with the striker on previous occasions also and, if he is available in the market, he seems like a perfect player for Arsene Wenger will need, To mount a serious title challenge this season.
Wenger feels that the England international is a high quality player and prior to the 2016 Euro Cup, he had this to say about the 26-year-old superstar, “In tournaments, we have many surprise.”
“In Portugal, the player of the tournament was Zagorakis so that shows it can by anybody.”
Pointing out his favourites he had said, “I think Pogba or Griezmann…or Sturridge – who has not had a long season – could do well.”
The former Chelsea man’s current situation at the Merseyside club is also responsible for such speculations, as he has fallen out of favour with manager Jurgen Klopp in recent times.
The German boss has not given Sturridge a start in recent times and has preferred Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi ahead of him, in the striker role this term.
Sturridge was made to play on the wings in the 2-0 defeat to rivals Burnley in the league and the attacker was given just a couple of minutes against Tottenham.
He looked frustrated on the sidelines at White Hart Lane, as Klopp rather utilized the services of Belgian striker Origi rather as a second-half substitute, as the Englishman just sat there.
After the Burnley game, he made his intentions clear on what he wanted, as he spoke his mind out.
Listening to his comments, there is no doubt that things are not well between Klopp and Sturridge at the moment. However, it will be interesting to see whether Arsene can take advantage of the player’s current situation at the club?
Also, is Sturridge prepared to fight for his place at Anfield or will he be leaving the Merseyside outfit in the upcoming days.
In the current transfer market, it will take a substantial bid from Arsenal’s end to convince the Reds into selling their player. Is Wenger prepared to spend that kind of money on a striker when he has just signed another one in Lucas Perez for £17m?
Arsene should not forget Sturridge’s injury problems as well, which will have a huge impact on his decision to sign him or not. It will definitely be a huge risk spending huge amount of money on a player who has spent more time on the injury list than in the playing eleven. What will happen next, will be seen in the upcoming days.
