Done Deal: The Crowd Favorite Returns To Stamford Bridge, As Chelsea Sign Yet Another Defender

What was shaping up to be a horrendous transfer summer for Chelsea and their new boss Antonio Conte, has taken a restorative turn on the last day of the transfer market. Reports claim that, the Ligue 1 champions have opened the doors for the Brazilian national’s exit after the West London club made a bid of £38m.

David Luiz a former Chelsea player is set to make a sensational comeback to Stamford Bridge after two years. Fallen out of favour for Mourinho, the defender was sold for a staggering fee of £50m, a couple of years ago. Many fans were disappointed with this deal being materialized back then. Luiz was a crowd favorite and a popular figure amongst the Stamford Bridge audience.

The Brazilian defender was a cornerstone in Chelsea’s champions league triumph in 2012 under Roberto Di Matteo. Luiz’  role in winning the Europa Cup the following season was paramount, where he was positioned as a holding midfielder  by Benitez the interim manager back then filling in the vacancy created by the sacking of Roberto di Matteo.

Once Mourinho took over Stamford Bridge manager job for his 2nd spell, the Brazil international was overlooked by the Special One. Jose soon transfer listed David Luiz selling him as the most expensive defender to Paris Saint-Germain. The Brazilian left with a special place in the heart of Chelsea fans, especially earned by his on field antics and also the passion he displayed playing each game.

Feeling hopeless and being unassertive on acquiring a defender after losing on numerous transfer targets, the Stamford Bridge outfit made a shock bid of 30m pounds to sign their own former defender. However, the French club was reluctant on selling the centre-back and put forth a counter request with an asking price of £38m.

The English club being in extreme need of a defender accepted to match the asking price. There are reports of Luiz being headed to London later today for a medical.

After the last 2 signings on the transfer deadline, Chelsea instantly appear very strong in all departments. It took a while, maybe forever, but the Blues have finally issued a warning to the other rival clubs, they are very much in this competition and are ready to play!
