Though the night did not start off well for the champions of Europe, Real Madrid, things only got better for them as the night went on. Zinedine Zidane had said in his post match interview that a draw between rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid would have been favourable for his team and that is what happened exactly. In fact even better for them!!
The two La Liga giants drew 1-1 as well and it has now been confirmed that Barca talisman Lionel Messi could miss up to three weeks of action or more, due to a groin injury that he suffered in the match.
The news will come as a huge boost for the Madrid based side, who are looking to win the top flight of Spanish football this time around and have started off positively, leading the points table so far.
The Argentine international will be missed dearly up front, as his presence in the attack can surely change games. The fans would have wanted him to play against Manchester City in the Champions League, though it seems that Messi might not make it in time for the match.
Talking about the injury, his manager Luis Enrique stated, “To lose Messi means that football loses. With Messi we are stronger, but we will continue being strong”
Enrique’s words do hold true that the absence of Messi is a footballing loss and whichever club you may support, watching the 29 year old forward play at his best is always an experience worth admiring.
