Post Match Presser : Zinedine Zidane Talks About His Side’s Disappointing 1-1 Draw Against Villarreal, As Real Madrid Fail To Break “Win Record”

Luka Jovic

It was a night when the reigning champions of Europe, Real Madrid failed to break the record for most consecutive wins by a team in the La Liga, by securing their 17th straight win in the tournament. Zinedine Zidane’s side were up against Villarreal, who would not be easy competitors and the Los Blancos had a huge task in their hand.

The French manager had his two attacking spearheads, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo back for this one, after missing out the previous match against Espanyol.

However, things did not go as per plan with no goals being scored in the normal time of the first period. Just on the brink of half-time in added time, Sergio Ramos gifted the visitors a penalty, which Bruno stepped up and converted, with the away team going into the break with the lead.

However, after the restart, it was the defensive superstar who made it 1-1, as he scored in the 48th minute of the game, from a well taken header. The game was on, as the home team looked to take the lead and break the record.

Despite their best efforts, the game did not find any more goals and it eventually ended 1-1, with both teams taking home a share of the spoils.

Here is what Zidane had to say about the game in his post-match presser, “We lacked intensity in the first half. We like to start games strongly but we did not manage to do that in the first half. We ca not always play at our best and be at 100% from the first minute. These things can happen and so it proved in the first half. Then, when you are down, it is difficult to get back into it. I will take away our second half and the effort from everyone. We are in great shape physically”…
