The Gunners board is reportedly lining up a contract extension for the Arsenal boss and they are hoping that he is able to end the uncertainty of his own future by the end of the season. Arsene Wenger’s contract runs out by the end of the summer and Wenger has consistently mentioned that he will wait until closer to the end of his deal before deciding on whether “he can still move the club forward”, in the years to come.
It would also appear that Mesut Ozil, and maybe other Arsenal stars as well including Alexis Sanchez, are waiting for clarification on their managers situation before signing their own contract extensions.
This may cause a few problems and uncertainty in the ranks the longer Wenger waits before putting signing any paper. Also, the 67-year-old main-man was a major factor in Ozil signing at the Emirates, and the belief is he will sign a new deal.
A two year deal is reportedly being lined up in two months’ time, around when England take on Germany on March 22.
With only 18 months remaining on both Sanchez and Ozil’s current contracts, there has been more doubt surrounding the ex-Barcelona forward if he is ready to commit his future at Arsenal.
However, the Gunners will still intend to convince their star man to stay, and they will hope to thrash out an agreement before the summer transfer window opens.
Wenger was rumored to be appointed by PSG, with Unai Emery just taking over at the start of the season however, that move could be unlikely.
If Wenger does agree to leave Arsenal, it will bring to an end an incredible 20-year career with the North London club. And he deserves to be thoroughly respected and admired for his past achievements, rather than be ridiculed for Arsenal’s 12-year title drought.
