How The League Cup Hero For Manchester United Turned Villain, As Red Devils Dropped Crucial Points At Home

Forget Messi and Ronaldo, the Manchester United fans have found a new footballing God. Well, almost. After winning the League Cup and claiming the first title in the Jose Mourinho era at Old Trafford, the Red Devils were determined to get some success in the league as well.

Here they faced off against a Bournemouth side that had been resilient, since the start of the current campaign and were looking to get something out of the game, at the Theatre of Dreams.

Though Marcos Rojo gave them an early lead in the 23rd minute, the score was level in the 40th minute, when King made it 1-1, as he equalized from the penalty spot.

After that, former Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic got engaged in a dual, when Tyrone Mings trod on his head and the eventual response from the former PSG man was an elbow to the Bournemouth full-back.

Kevin Friend (match official), lost control of the situation in hand and the away side’s Andrew Surman was sent off with a second booking, a rather meek sending off.

The second half was a struggle for the Cherries and it was Ibrahimovic, who failed to make most his chance to score from the spot as Artur Boruc saved his spot-kick in the 72nd-minute.

The game eventually did end in a draw and both teams took home a share of the spoils, meaning that the Portuguese manager’s side remained in sixth-place, missing out on the opportunity to get back into the top four.
