The Past Story-
Arsenal fans were ecstatic after the news broke that French striker Alexandre Lacazette has finally arrived and signed for the Gunners. However, could this be a case of mixed emotions between two Frenchmen? The Question has to be asked, “Where does this leave Olivier Giroud?” Well, this could clearly spell the end for the former Monaco forward at Arsenal. The big striker probably knows his days at with Wenger could be numbered, but there are still many clubs interested in signing the 30 year old.
West Ham and Everton are looking to scrap up the pieces that could fall once Giroud finds out he may be an overload of surplus at Arsenal.
The north Londoners already have back-up options in Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck and the arrival of Lacazette would push Giroud further down the pecking order for Arsene Wenger who usually plays with just one focal man at the top.
Having been benched for most of last season, there were rumors that Giroud could be leaving due to lack of game-time and as we look to prepare for the new season, it doesn’t seem likely that Giroud could see a future at Arsenal being an integral part of the squad.
However Everton look to be spending big this season and are willing to splurge out £20 million to recruit Giroud from London after Toffees striker Romelu Lukaku has made it public that he doesn’t wish to stay at Goodison Park by not signing a contract extension.
Local London rivals West Ham are also looking to add to their physical squad and Giroud should be able to fit in with their style as he too is a main man up front who can look to hold the ball that helps other players get into the game and into decent positions.
Giroud has however stated at the club website despite Wenger signing Lacazette this week. “I want to carry on my good journey at Arsenal and I always want to give my best,” Giroud said. “I would love to win another title, or maybe more until the end of my contract.”
The Frenchman signed for Arsenal in 2012 and helped his side in winning 3 FA Cup titles in 2014, 2015 and 2017 respectively, and is also one of just seven Arsenal players to score 50 goals or more for the club.
Certainly, a move is on the cards, maybe Everton and West Ham are just waiting for the right opportunity to cash-in.
Latest Updates-
It seems that Wenger has asked the attacker to leave the Emirates, as he does not wish to retain his services now. If that is the case, Giroud will want to leave the club and look for other options, where hs wants to continue his career as a player.
The 30 year old superstar has a good left foot and is experienced to perform at the top level, whether it is for his club or at the international level.
