The Arsenal Interest-
Arsene Wenger has just managed to make two big impact signings this summer transfer window with Sead Kolasinac arriving from German club Schalke 04 and Alexandre Lacazette flying in from French club Olympique Lyon. It seems now that the Gunners are looking to bring in another massive name at the club after being linked to Real Madrid star attacker Lucas Vazquez.
Many Arsenal fans may believe that the North-London club may require another defender as top priority rather than a quality attacker but Wenger begs to differ. Arsenal were involved in a thrilling seven goal thriller against Leicester City on the opening day of the Premier League but managed to come out on top after Olivier Giroud’s late winner. But a week later they faced a humiliating defeat away to Stoke City.
This suggested that there were still weaknesses in the Arsenal team as they couldn’t break down the Potters’ defense. And with the gloomy cloud of Alexis Sanchez on the verge of leaving the club, Lucas Vazquez has been identified as a potential replacement for the Chilean ace.
The Spaniard has spent two years in the Real Madrid first team squad but hasn’t been able to establish himself as a regular started in the Los Blancos team under manager Zinedine Zidane. Already 26 years old now, Vazquez is too good a player to be left on the bench for most of the season. Vazquez made 60 appearances in the La Liga over the past two seasons but only twenty two have come as starts.
Although with the competition in the team for a starting berth, it is not easy for a player to outshine Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Isco, Asensio, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema in attack. And despite the big names he plays with, Vazquez has made a big impact scoring six goals and notching up a stellar 14 assists.
The Spain international is comfortable playing anywhere along the front-line, either as a winger on either side of the pitch or through the middle as a main striker. He is quick, blessed with talent and potential and provides good crosses to set up other team-mates.
Sign Another Winger?
Does the north London side, actually need another winger in their present squad, if Alexis Sanchez decides to stay at the club?? Personally, a big “NO”.
Wenger already has issues giving stars like Alex Oxlade Chamberlain enough play time, due to which the England international wanted to leave the Emirates and revive his career elsewhere. So, unless the Chilean international or Chamberlain decide to leave the club, there is no real need of another winger, just to warm the benches.
It could be seen as a move for the future, if the Londoners are expecting that Sanchez will leave them, at the end of the current campaign. However, apart from that, there is no real need of an additional star on the wings and Wenger will have a hard time convincing the Spaniard to make the move due to this, it would seem.
