What It Seemed Like Was Going To Happen?
The Blues are keen on bringing in new players before the transfer deadline day and the latest player that is rumored to be on the Chelsea wish-list is Alex Oxlade Chamberlain. Further, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte seems confident that a deal for the Arsenal winger after he will refuse a contract extension with the Gunners.
It seemed that Chamberlain was reportedly unhappy with the deal that he was initially offered by the Arsenal board. Chamberlain was offered a deal which would see him earn less than £100,000 a week, which was felt as an insult to the Arsenal star.
After figuring out the discomfort they left Chamberlain in, Arsenal upped their offer to nearly double the amount, which would see him earn as much as superstars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
However, now reports claim that Chamberlain was extremely unhappy by the way he was treated and was not going to sign a new contract extension.
The 24 year old made only 16 starts in the Premier League campaign last season as he was restricted to making appearances off the bench.
Further, Chamberlain was now looking to move on from the Emirates stadium in north-London where his contract expires at the end of next summer.
Chelsea and their manager Antonio Conte are now looking to take advantage of this situation as they look to ass reinforcements to their squad to defend their title.
A bid for around £35m was launched this week and the Blues had hoped to secure a deal for the former Southampton man before the transfer deadline day next Thursday.
Arsene Wenger was not going down without a fight and wanted to keep Chamberlain and pursue him to stay.
However it was not understandable as to why Wenger would want such a player to remain at the club, when he could raise funds from a squad player, rather than sell him for free next season.
Possibly a case of a local London rivalry? To add to the drama, Chamberlain had a change of heart at the last minute and did not move to Stamford Bridge, which came as a further shock.
Recent Reports And What Eventually Happened-
It has now been stated that Liverpool have agreed a £40m deal for the “OX”, who had previously stated that he prefers to join the Reds than play for Conte and his team, for some reason. Another player who has ditched the west London outfit this summer, for a rival club and this is not something good for the Italian manager, who was hoping to add him to his current side, as they look to defend the Premier League title.
The ditch will have hurt Conte once again and he might look to sign more stars today, prior to the transfer window coming to a close. It could be a surprise signing or a panic buy, nothing seems certain yet.
