Ready To Sign?
They haven’t managed to get their prime target Naby Keita from RB Leipzig this season after a breakdown with the Bundesliga club, but Liverpool are on the verge of signing another midfield player from Ligue 1 club OGC Nice. His name is Jean Michael Seri and is regarded as one of the most hard-working and dedicated players at the French club.
With Jurgen Klopp having a rather underwhelming season in the transfer market this season, Liverpool failed to actually impose themselves on the deals with Naby Keita and Virgil Van Dijk. But there seems to be more interest in recruiting Seri since the player is priced for a lower fee than his release clause of £36.4m, Seri is valued at just over £20m.
The Reds are reportedly closing in for a deal for the Ivory international who has made 72 appearances for Nice.
The player is regarded as a work-horse in midfield, often compared to N’golo Kante of France, because of his energy levels and providing a defensive cover for the back-line.
Seri attracted interest from Arsenal and Barcelona as well after an impressive campaign with the French outfit which saw him rack up seven goals and 10 assists in a season which helped them secure third place and a Champions League play-off spot.
Nice are also willing to let Seri leave the club, but may demand a figure higher than just £20m for such a player.
His most notable performances were when he was at the heart of the midfield when his side Nice decimated Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco 4-0 and billionaire club PSG 3-1.
And with Klopp looking for more dynamism in the center of the pitch and Seri is quite perfect for those functions that include quick passing in a deep-lying role as well as dribbling skill sets.
Seri is a typical box-to-box midfielder when called upon who has accomplished shooting from range as well as being good on set-pieces. This signing at Anfield could possibly end Klopp’s pursuit of Keita.
The Problem That Klopp Faces!!
Klopp has not really been able to grab hold of the situation and get things done his way in the transfer market, as Liverpool are still chasing a host of players that they wish to sign in the days to come. The Reds have already seen a wavy start to their new campaign and it will be interesting to see how they respond now.
A 3-3 draw on the opening day of the season against Watford, followed by a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, would not have been the way that the Merseyside club would have wanted to start this term, though the fact that they have not lost yet would have given them some hope.
The Barca Problem-
A recent story adds that Barcelona have now joined the race for the player and their interest is strong, as they look to recover from their Super Cup loss to Real Madrid and wish to win some major titles this term.
If the German manager can now sort things out with his team, in the days to come, things would only get better and a quality signing can add much more value to the whole squad.
It seems that is what will be exactly on the mind of the former Borussia Dortmund main-man and whatever be the story, Beyond The Posts will surely report it.
