How Liverpool Let Go Of The Advantage That They Earned Prior To The International Break?

Liverpool

Manchester City had thrashed Liverpool 5-0 today at Etihad Stadium. The match was expected to be an even contest before the start of the match and also an goal fest was expected with both the sides having good set of attacking options. But the red card of Mane had changed all the equation and after that it was all blue at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola had started Danilo ahead of Sane in this match with Sterling serving one match suspension following his red card in the last match. On the other hand, Liverpool’s new signing Alex Oxlade Chamberlain was starting from the bench for the Kops.

Sergio Aguero had drawn the first blood in the match when De Bruyne provided a nice through ball directed to him and Aguero had done no mistake to put it in the net. With this goal, Aguero became the highest Non European Goal Scorer in the history of Premier League (124 Goals).

Then came the turning point of the match when Mane had raised his foot high against the Man City Keeper Ederson and the player had to be taken out of the field immediately. Mane was given straight red by the referee after that action. It was difficult for Liverpool to come back in the match with 10 men against a mighty City.

At the end of the stoppage time of the first half Jesus scored the second goal for City when he met the De Bruyne’s cross perfectly in the box. One of the same kind of goal of Jesus was ruled out because of offside few minutes earlier and there also the assist was provided by De Bruyne.

In the second half Klopp had made a change, as he tried to make things happen in the match. He had fielded Ox, the new signing of Liverpool in the place of Salah. But it also seemed to have no effect on the mode of the play as Jesus scored his second and City’s third when Aguero pushed the ball selflessly towards him. It was all City at that moment.

No real signs of attack were there for Liverpool. Fimirno was becoming lonely in the attacking third and City defenders had bottled him up completely. Klopp had changed Wijnaldum to Milner but it did not get Liverpool the edge to come back in the match. After that it was of Leroy Sane show at the Etihad.

He came in place of Jesus in the second half and scored a brace in the short period of time. Mendy provided a beautiful cross at the 1st minute of injury time and Sane had put it perfectly in the net. Then he had come with a great left footed curler and there was no clue left for Mignolet.

With this win City are now top of the league table with 10 points in 4 matches and they are looking like a solid team who have all the weapons to be the contender of the title. After this match Liverpool are currently in 7th position with 7 points in 4 matches.
