How This Deal With Real Madrid Could Have Changed Things For Liverpool This Season?

Liverpool

The Deal That Never Happened!!

Liverpool fans had been getting excited at the prospect of the club verbally agreeing to a deal with Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic. The former Inter Milan man was being looked on as a replacement for Red Bull Leipzig’s Naby Keita in midfield and Jurgen Klopp may have just gotten the player he required.

When fans talk about Kovacic, the one word that comes to mind is versatile. The midfielder is adept to playing a deep-lying footballer to cover the defense, a central box-to-box midfielder or as an attacking play-maker who can play behind the strikers.

At Real Madrid, Kovacic is not able to completely demonstrate his abilities at full potential due to the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Isco and Asensio is the squad. The 23 year old has a bright future ahead of him but Zinedine Zidane cannot afford to give him enough game-time at the Spanish capital.

With Liverpool’s deal with Keita going sour, Kovacic is more than a like for like replacement for Klopp. His passing ability and tackling in the center of the pitch makes him a complete midfielder, one that the German boss is on the look-out for.

With Brazilian play-maker Philippe Coutinho on the verge of leaving Liverpool, Kovacic is not a direct replacement, but would undoubtedly add a sense of strengthening and solidarity to the Merseyside club’s midfield.

The Croatian international has reportedly agreed to a verbal deal with Liverpool and could be the defensive midfielder Anfield has been looking for all season. Having already signed Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andrew Robertson, Kovacic would be the fourth arrival at Anfield.

However, it is unlikely that Real Madrid boss Zidane would allow Kovacic to leave the club considering the fact that if any of his midfielders are injured, Kovacic could fill in and do the job. But only time will tell if Liverpool will be able to finally recruit a talented midfielder to strengthen their core department. What do you guys think? Will Kovacic leave the Bernabeu for regular football in the future?

Would This Deal Have Changed The Reds For Good?

The way that the Merseyside outfit is playing, honestly, a player like the Los Blancos man could have surely helped them a lot, if the Kops had managed to sign him in the summer transfer window. Their midfield has been a mess at times, but their main concern has been the defensive line. The German manager will want to rectify the problems within his squad and fast, as he looks to win some silverware finally.

Since he came to Anfield, Klopp has had a more or less frustrating time at the club and though he did guide his side to a couple of cup finals, their failure to win them would have not done well for their confidence. It will be interesting to see whether they are able to recover from this slump of form that they are going through and whether or not, they are able to rise back to the top once again.
