What The Players Probably Wanted!!
The Premier League champions are currently under some tough times. Having comfortably won the Premier League last season the Blues have not had a great transfer market not a good start to the new season. Chelsea lost the Community Shield to local rivals Arsenal failing to achieve silver-ware in their first game of the season. The Gunners beat Chelsea on penalties with new signing Alvaro Morata missing his kick along with keeper Thibaut Courtois.
Willy Caballero, Anthony Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko had been the other three additions at Stamford Bridge this season. The fans weren’t happy with the names that have left the club. Nathan Ake and Dominic Solanke were sold and club legend John Terry had joined Aston Villa, which has weakened the core of the Chelsea defense.
However, most notably, Nemanja Matic was allowed to leave the club to fierce rivals Manchester United which came as a shock to the football world. To add to all of this, notorious striker Diego Costa returned back to Spain as well.
Eden Hazard was being linked with a move away from the club, as things were not looking too bright for the Blues. They lost the first League game against Burnley at Stamford Bridge and have suffered to losses to Manchester City and Crystal Palace in the league as well.
Also, they recent lost 3-0 to AS Roma in the Champions League, though many would argue that it wasn’t really a key game, from the overall point of view of the season.
With defender Cesar Azpilicuetta hinting that he would like to see new faces at the club, there had been talks previously of the club signing more stars, though it did not happen in the summer. The Spaniard had stated, ” Well when you see the players we lost, and the players we have signed in, they are not the same, obviously we have very good young players, but we have to know the reality that being champions is even harder the next season, we have experience of that. So we need players, also for the development of the young players, they need help from senior players, from top players, not to rush them in a position where maybe they are not ready to go at the moment but they will be in the future.”
“So it is something that the club is working on with the manager, and hopefully we can get new signings in the next few weeks.”
This was not just the feeling of the defensive superstar, but a lot of his team-mates were not sure how things would work out for them, as they looked to defend the title that they won yet again, this time under Conte.
The former Juventus and Italy manager has somewhat sorted things out, though it will be still be a challenge for him to cut down on the deficit that he has, as Pep Guardiola’s side are leading his team currently by 9 points, after 10 games.
Will Conte Oblige In The January Transfer Window?
Well, the Manchester based teams have been dominating the top flight of English football and if things do not change by the end of the year, the Italian manager might have to take some strong steps to turn things in his team’s favour. The Blues are looking to defend their Premier League title, though things are slowly slipping away from them and the board might fund a few transfers if things do not change.
There were also some claims of Conte probably returning back home in the near future, though the fans and the players would not really want that, with the improvement and discipline that he has brought in.
The game at Stamford Bridge against the Red Devils on Sunday will be a really crucial fixture and if the west London outfit lose that one, things will get really complicated for Conte and his side.
