Arsenal has been lacking a solid and stable defense for quite a while and despite having a formidable attack they always seem to concede goals at the other end of the pitch. Former Gunner Kevin Campbell has asked Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to sign David Luiz.
The recent embarrassing loss to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on the weekend sent Arsenal fans into shock over their defensive worries and Kevin Campbell who spent seven years at Arsenal from 1987-95 stated that Luiz would be a great addition to Arsenal’s back-line.
In a recent interview, Campbell stated, “I’ll take him. I’ll take him to Arsenal. 100 percent, “Make his mind up, pay him the money and get him to Arsenal.
“He will solve one of the problems because as you can see from that defense, nobody really gets the ball and comes out with the ball. They need somebody to take the game by the scruff of the neck, get the ball and move up. If the defender moves up, the midfield has to move up and then there are more opportunities.”
I think Koscielny is prone to make mistakes and has done for many years. He’s made a good few mistakes this season. “I think if you’ve got international defenders in your back four, or back three, you are going places.” He said.
“Arsenal are a bit mix and match at the moment. Arsenal need to have a set back three or back four and he’s [Luiz] a quality player who I’m sure Arsenal fans would welcome,“ added Campbell.
Luiz was one of Chelsea’s standout performers last season and helped the Blues in clinching the Premier League title and reaching the finals of the FA Cup. However, with Arsenal’s defensive worries increasing day by day, Wenger may have to look into the transfer market to buy a solid defender.
Before returning for his second spell at Chelsea, David Luiz was the most expensive defender when Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain brought the fancy Brazilian for a fee of £50m and he helped them win each and every domestic trophies each season in three consecutive years during his time at the French capital.
But the 30-year-old frizzy-haired defender seems to have fallen out of favor of his Chelsea boss after reportedly questioning his tactics in a 3-0 away defeat to AS Roma in the Champions League. Luiz has not featured for Chelsea for a long time and has also been dropped from the first team squad on a few occasions ever since. This has led to rumors of the player leaving the Stamford Bridge club.
Luiz can also play in defensive midfield and is quite robust and energetic on the football pitch which would be a great help to Arsenal if they manage to lure him. His passing is very accurate and he is a big threat in the air. Since he left Chelsea for the first time, Luiz transformed himself into a world-class defender. However, Chelsea will be reluctant to sell the Brazilian star to a direct rival in the Premier League and moreover to their London rivals.
