Deal Done? Have Chelsea Finally Agreed A Deal With This Top Star?

It has been reported that Chelsea has already agreed on a fee for AS Roma’s Edin Dzeko after being interested in bringing the big forward to Stamford Bridge in this winter transfer window. The Blues have been struggling to add goals in front as club record signing Alvaro Morata has found it difficult to adapt to his new club. The Spaniard cost Chelsea £70m but has not been able to deliver the goals on a regular basis. He has all the traits of a top striker but has not managed to find consistency and a few injuries have hampered his Chelsea career so far.

Chelsea won the Premier League last term with another Spaniard Diego Costa leading their front-line but the London-based outfit has not been able to replace his goals for the club and is on the look-out for probably another striker in this January transfer window to ease the pressure on Morata. And the new hit-man that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is targeting is AS Roma’s front-man Edin Dzeko after being unimpressed by Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi.

Conte has been frustrated by the lack of signings at Chelsea after Ross Barkley was the only player the club lured at Stamford Bridge this winter transfer window. But the Italian boss is now looking to spend funds on new arrivals with Dzeko being the prime target to bolster their frontline in the attacking third. And reports in Europe already claim that the Italian club has agreed to terms with Chelsea over a fee for their goal-scoring marksman.

Dzeko has already had the experience of playing football at top level clubs throughout his career and has been a key player in all the clubs he has played for. Dzeko won the Bundesliga with German club VFL Wolfsburg in the 2008-09 season and then moved to English giants Manchester City in 2011, helping them to win the Premier League twice in three seasons before finally making a move to the Italian capital.

The Bosnian international has also been in great form this season and could be the perfect compatriot for Alvaro Morata. He has quite similar characteristics to the former Real Madrid man and is looking for a move back to the Premier League. Dzeko is a tall figure which makes him a threat in the air and he is also able to hold up the ball and involve his team-mates into the game. But most importantly the 31-year-old attacker still has an eye for goal whenever he is on the pitch. He has scored 12 times this season including a stunning volley against the Chelsea in a 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Dzeko could be a big signing for Chelsea as he is a focal point for a team, and Chelsea could desperately use a goal-scorer in the absence of Morata due to injury and poor form. However, a move for Dzeko could mean an exit for Batshuayi as Conte will not look to keep unwanted stock at the club. Chelsea is also linked with a move for West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic as a backup strike option.
