Everton are eyeing a deal for Johnny Evans. The former Manchester United player, was center of attention back in August , when West Brom was rumoured to have rejected a €18m bid from Manchester City in the summer transfer window. They scared the City officials by demanding €35m for the Irishman back then. Pep wasn’t interested to splash so much on a 30 year old. The experienced defender, now the captain of Hawthorns , will add much needed depth to an otherwise flawed Toffees side. An amount in the region of €38m will test West Brom’s resolve to see how interested they are to hold on to their proven, home-grown defender.
The 29-year-old defender spent a lot of time on loan during his nine-year spell at Manchester United. He spent a season at Royal Antwerp in 2006 and two respective seasons at Sunderland. On his return to Manchester United, he wasn’t able to cement his place in the starting eleven which forced him a move to West Bromwich Albion in 2015.
Why Everton Needs Marco Silva!!
Watford have parted company with their manager Marco Silva. The 40 year old Portuguese was appointed last May and received much applause for the first half of the season.
A slump in form ensured that the Hornets lingered in the 10th spot, five points above the relegation zone , making the board to terminate his contract. Watford have stated that an unwarranted approach from a Premier League rival (rumoured to be Everton) has made the manager lose his focus and hence the slump form.
Otherwise they’d seen Silva as a long term choice for the club. With the job gone and the chance to come to Everton next summer, Silva has got enough time to ponder over the various pros and cons of the position as Everton manager.
We here at “Beyond The Posts” take a look at the current situation and try to analyze the reasons why Marco Silva is the right man for Everton.
Marco Silva has handled two relegation sides so far and has done a pretty decent job. But i’m not sure if he is good enough for a Champions League side. If Everton comes calling, he should take it up.
The stakes are lot more higher, and he may even have to up his game. From Everton’s perspective, he is the man they can get because high profile managers like Diego Simeone and Tuchel seem to be not interested in the job. Watford’s gameplay this season is something to be paid attention to.
They play a high pressing game. They don’t rely much on pace. That’s what a flawed side like Everton needs right now. Everton lack pace and were dependent on attacking midfielders for results.
Without a striker like Lukaku upfront, the side definitely suffered this season. At Watford, Marco Silva used his midfield to play a high pressing game with a striker like Richarlison upfront for firepower. Everton are now a side that plays in a similar way to Watford right now but with a set of better players and better wage budgets.
Imagine what the young Portuguese manager could do with the likes of Siggurdsson , Klaasen and Gueye. He knows how to get results with under dog teams and at the same time is dedicated to playing beautiful attacking football. Everton should go for him next summer. The gamble may work out or it may not.
On a personal level though, I feel that Marco Silva and Everton will be a match made in heaven, should they land him at Goodison Park. If it does, then England may get to witness another Pochettino in the making. Beautiful football with pleasing results.
