Last Minute Drama At Anfield, Liverpool Deserved A Win Over Tottenham? – Talking Points Of The Match

Liverpool looked dead and buried when Harry Kane stepped up for his first penalty after being on the back foot for the majority of the second half, but he was denied by Loris Karius. The save breathed life into the Reds, who thought they had snatched then win when Mohamed Salah notched his second of the game with a brilliant mazy run and finish. However, the assistant referee correctly spotted a foul on Erik Lamela from Virgil Van Dijk to hand Kane redemption and he did not disappoint again from 12 yards. He notched his 100th Premier League goal in the process of securing a valuable point for Spurs.

1. Salah Put Liverpool Ahead :

Spurs got caught out at the back as a loose ball from Dier’s challenge fell perfectly for the Egyptian. He had a free run at goal and did not disappoint with the finish, slotting the ball into the bottom corner. It was a perfect start for Liverpool.

2. Liverpool Were Looking Confident In The First Half :

Mohamed Salah’s early strike was the difference between Liverpool and Tottenham at the break in their Premier League clash. Spurs had a nervy start and Eric Dier’s attempted back-pass fell perfectly for Salah to run on to and slot past Hugo Lloris. The visitors’ nerves continued, but the Reds could not expose them further in the opening 45 minutes. Harry Kane had been a spectator for the majority of the first period and Spurs needed to figure out a way to get him involved in the second half.

3. Wanyama Scored A Screamer To Notch An Equaliser :

Spurs got a deserved leveller and it comes from the substitute. Eriksen’s cross was punched away by Karius, but Wanyama made strides to latch on to the loose ball. He blasted a right-footed effort towards the net and it soared into the top corner. The strike had so much power it hit the back of the net and rebounded out. A special goal from the midfielder.

4. Penalty Miss By Harry Kane :

Kane was tripped by Karius and the referee points to the spot. The linesman suggested that the forward could be offside, but the referee stuck with his decision. The forward missed the opportunity to put the visitors ahead. He sent his effort straight down the middle and the Liverpool keeper made the stop. Karius stayed home in the middle of his goal to make the stop. A crucial moment in the game.

5. Liverpool Regained The Lead :

The Reds might have snatched the three points at the death thanks to the Egyptian. He weaved through the Tottenham defence down the right inside channel, beating three challenges. Salah held his composure and buries his effort into the roof of the net. The winger sent Anfield into raptures.

6. Harry Kane Scored A Late Equaliser From The Penalty Spot :

The assistant did brilliantly to spot the infraction as Van Dijk swinged at the ball and misses. He connected with Lamela – and the spot-kick was given. The striker came forward with weight of the world on his shoulders. Kane fired low towards the bottom corner and it found the net. He had his 100th Premier League goal with that.
