The Blues recently allowed their striker Michy Batshuayi to join Borussia Dortmund on loan but may look to make the deal permanent if they can land United States’ hot-shot Christian Pulisic. Chelsea may finally be on the path of doing business the right way. Their manager Antonio Conte has not been given any power over transfers but at the very least the club is looking to bring in star quality to build on their club’s future.
Olivier Giroud was the latest unveiling at Chelsea after the Frenchman completed a move to Stamford Bridge from London rivals’ club Arsenal. He arrived on a deal worth £15m during the January transfer window deadline day after having spent five and a half seasons at the Emirates stadium.
Giroud’s transfer to Chelsea was completed on the base of Belgian international Michy Batshuayi leaving the club to join German outfit Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the season. And the 31-year-old forward seems to have settled well at the club linking up with his team-mates and involving them in the game as he is a good target-man.
Batshuayi has not been impressive for Chelsea despite the Premier League champions spending close to €40m to secure the 24-year-old’s services from Ligue 1 side Marseille. But the striker, who is on loan at the moment, has had an unbelievable start to his life in Germany scoring 5 goals in just 3 appearances.
With Conte unimpressed with Batshuayi’s performances at Chelsea, the Italian boss wouldn’t mind if he remained at Dortmund making a permanent switch as he cannot adapt to Chelsea’s style of play. But he would want something in return. The bargain price would come as US striker Christian Pulisic, who is currently one of the most wanted properties in Europe.
You wouldn’t believe it if I told you but Pulisic is just 19 years of age, but he has taken the world by surprise with his pace, skill, and trickery. A talented teenager from the far west has attracted the biggest of clubs in Europe even with La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona in the race for his signature.
Chelsea’s Premier League arch-rivals Manchester United are also keen on signing Pulisic but the Stamford Bridge outfit now has the advantage of bringing him to England. Pulisic is on contract with Dortmund till 2020 and the Bavarian club will definitely not want to let go of their valuable asset, but may have no choice if they want in-form Batshuayi to sign a permanent deal.
The Blues now have the upper hand in signing the star from Pennsylvania if Batshuayi agrees on terms to a permanent deal at the Signal Iduna Park. Pulisic can be a great addition to Chelsea’s squad and a possible replacement for Eden Hazard, who is bound to land up at Real Madrid if the Belgian does not agree to another contract extension.
Pulisic was the youngest player to ever represent his country and in 20 appearances for the USA, he has notched up nine goals. It is clearly showing the class of the player.
