Know Your Player : Things You Never Knew About Arsenal’s Winter Signing Aubameyang

Christened as Pierre-Emerick  Emiliano Francios Aubameyang, the player is a Gabonese footballer who plys his trade for the English club Arsenal and the Gabonese national team. He is known for his speed and ability to play as a forward as well as a winger. He kicked off his career at Italian club Milan, who loaned him to four clubs  in France before he joined Saint-Étienne on a permanent move in 2011. Immediately  after winning the Coupe de la Ligue final in 2013, he eventually joined Dortmund, where he has twice won the DFL-Supercup in back to back seasons.

Aubameyang represented Gabon national team at three  African Cup of Nations  tournaments and the  Summer Olympics in 2012.

Aubameyang was declared  the winner of the CAF African player of the year award in 2015. He became  the first Gabonese player to win the award. He was referred to as the eighth best player in the world by The Guardian newspaper back in December 2016.

In the month of January  in 2007,  Aubameyang  joined Italian club Milan’s youth team. He played for the inaugural  Champions youth cup held in Malaysia. He helped his team finish fourth by scoring 7 goals in 6  appearances. He attracted the scouts internationally after this performance. He was awarded the Roberto Bettega trophy for finishing as the highest scorer in the  competition.

He was sent on loan to Dijon for the 2008-2009 season. This was followed by loan moves to two other French clubs Lille and Monaco for the next consecutive seasons.

In the year 2011 he made the move to French club Saint Etienne , where he stayed for a couple of seasons before moving to Germany.

It was here that Arsenal star player Aubameyang revived his career and established himself as one of the best strikers in the footballing world. He stayed there for a span of 5 seasons. He scored 141 goals in just 213 appearances for the German club.

On January 2018, he made a move to England. London club Arsenal signed him for a record fee of €56m surpassing the record fee they paid for French striker Lacazette.

The Arsenal star striker made his debut against Everton in a 5-1 home win. He scored the fourth goal  in the match after another  new boy Henrikh mkhitaryan assisted him.
