Chelsea Vs Newcastle United : Talking Points Of The Match, As Blues Secure Narrow Win

Chelsea have got the much awaited victory at St James Park on Sunday. Maurizio Sarri’s side were able to beat Newcastle United at their home turf with a margin of 2-1. Chelsea had 82 percent ball possession in their favour and the style of play they are slowly acquiring is really commendable. Here are the talking points of the match between Chelsea and Newcastle United :

1. ’Sarriball’ Started Rolling :

Maurizio Sarri’s system has begun to work at Chelsea completely and we can actually say that. Chelsea are playing a beautiful passing football throughout the day match. The team is getting into the shape with the management of Maurizio Sarri. The players are giving their all to accommodate themselves in this system. Only the speed of their attacks needs to get better and the players need to shoot more to test the opponent Goalkeeper.

2. Jorginho Is The ‘Heart’ Of This Side :

The Italian midfielder is really owning the ‘Heart’ of this Chelsea side. The player is continuing to do his work to implement Maurizio Sarri’s system in this Premier League. He has completed the most number of passes till date in the Premier League this season. He has also the most number of touches in the ball. Jorginho has completed 173 passes in this match just 1 less than Gundogan who has completed 174 passes against Newcastle United in the previous season.

3. Marcos Alonso Again The Hero Of The Match :

The left back Marcos Alonso again proved to be Hero of the match against Newcastle United. Chelsea were struggling to get clear cut opportunities. There were too many square passes. Some players were holding the ball too much. These should be the thing of concern for Maurizio Sarri in future. But as long as Alonso is there, Chelsea will surely be up there to face any challenge. The left back tried to cut inside the channel in the penalty box and was tackled by a Newcastle United’s defender. The referee indicated at the spot and Eden Hazard scored his 70th Goal in his Chelsea career with converting the penalty kick successfully into a Goal.

After the goal of Newcastle United, it was again Marcos Alonso who took the charge in his own hand. There was set piece movement near the penalty box of Newcastle United. Olivier Giroud heads the ball back to Marcos Alonso. His right footed shot was deflected by Yedlin and it changed its direction towards the Goal.

4. Rafa Benitez’s Plan Was Almost Successful :

The manager of Newcastle United, Rafa Benitez knew that this Chelsea side would like to play with more possession. They will try to play beautiful passing football. So, he tried to break the rhythm of the game-play of the Blues with rough and tough football. He changed the formation of his side to 5-4-1 and his ultra defensive strategy almost got paid off. Joselu had equalised too for Newcastle United but that own goal has let them down in this match. Newcastle United will face Manchester City in the next weekend in the Premier League.
