Manchester United Vs Leicester City : How Jose Mourinho’s Men Clinched Their First Win Of The Season?

Jose Mourinho

Manchester United have clinched the first victory of the season in the Premier League. They have defeated Leicester City with a scoreline of 2-1 in the opening match of the Premier League. Here are the talking points of the opening match of the Premier League in the new season of 2018-19 :

1. Debatable Penalty Awarded To Manchester United:

It was the first match of season for both the sides in the Premier League. They were trying to settle things in the first half. Manchester United were keeping pressure on Leicester City from the very first moment of the match. The attacking move was created by Alexis Sanchez and the ball has touched the hand of a Leicester City defender in the penalty box. We could not say that it was intentional. But, these days, referees are considerate for the attacking sides in these kind of situations. So, Manchester United have got the penalty.

2. Paul Pogba Scored The Opening Goal Of The Premier League Season :

People would have thought that Alexis Sanchez was the first choice in the Manchester United side to take the penalties. But all of a sudden Paul Pogba has taken the penalty kick and scored the goal for the Red Devils. It was a perfect kick at the top right corner. Leicester City’s Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has gone in the right direction. It did not help him to save the brilliant penalty kick taken the French National side midfielder Paul Pogba. Paul Pogba was heavily linked with a move towards Barcelona in the last few days of the summer transfer window. But, Jose Mourinho had not let his player go in such a short notice period as there were almost no time available for the club management to find a suitable replacement at that point of the transfer window.

The rumours were increasing that the relationship between Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba was worsening day by day in the previous season. It is seeming that there is certain development of some good relationship between the manager and the player. Paul Pogba was given the armband of Manchester United in this match against Leicester City. The French midfielder has been on the top of the list of taking set pieces for the Red Devils in this new season. So,it is all going in well direction for Manchester United at the beginning of the new season.

3. Luke Shaw Is Set To Grab His Place :

Luke Shaw was not the first choice left back option for Manchester United in the previous season. Ashley Young was not ready to take part in this match. So, Luke Shaw has taken his place in the field. Luke Shaw has scored one brilliant goal for the Red Devils and it was much needed in the perspective of the match. The second goal was very much crucial for Manchester United and Luke Shaw’s brilliant work of the left foot has done it for them today against Leicester City in the opening match of the Premier League.

4. Leicester’s Failure To Finish Off The Chances :

The visitors had some great chances to get more out of the game, though they failed to get the goals that would trouble the Red Devils. Eventually, it was Vardy who was lucky to get a consolation, but it was just too late till then. A better display in attack would have made a huge difference for the Foxes. They were clearly missing Mahrez, who moved to Manchester City in the summer and it was visible in their performance.
