Manchester United In The Hunt To Sign Serie A Star, After Poor Start To The Season

Jose Mourinho

Manchester United looks all set to land Inter Milan’s prolific goal getter to push away their on-going poor brand of show inside the new season. Jose Mourinho seems to have lost it all in his third season in charge at Old Trafford with his tactics flopping in decisive stages once again. Defeats to Brighton and Tottenham in the earlier days of the month followed by an embarrassing exit from the Carabao Cup in the hands of Derby County, managed precisely by Chelsea great Frank Lampard, only added fuel to the fire of Jose’s long standing critics. Similar to the stories of last two seasons, the Portuguese boss has failed to make his choice of the starting eleven with players fuming at his infamous defensive tactics. His fall out with Frenchman Paul Pogba is now a regular headline on outlets signalling disruption in the dressing room and questions are asked on the team unity.

Prior to the season, Mourinho was denied to spend more money in the summer window for a centre back, as per his demand, by Ed Woodward declaring the inefficiency the high priced existing industrialists had demonstrated on the pitch in creating the product. Woodward’s views are obvious relating to the game show United has undertaken over 128 games under Jose’s management. As reflected by the poor start to the campaign, United sustained problem in the back line due to uncategorized centre-half pairings.

The former Chelsea boss has not yet managed to make a solid duo to take responsibilities at the back as he did for either plank for wing back role that caused a massive drop of points over match days. This has tormented the fellow relationship with the board and eventually deemed its effect on the pitch. Hence, Red Devils currently sits seventh on the chart behind Arsenal, a place ahead and six points adrift from leaders Liverpool. A different problem has aroused to what Mourinho is talked about. The club’s front-line is also crippling. Problems over Anthony Martial, Rashford’s game time and most importantly Lukaku’s uncanny misfiring is now primarily causing havoc altogether.  Thus, the board is now feeling to strength the forward line instead to lift off the pressure on back four as of now.

The choice is incredible. Manchester United are ready to trigger the £110m buyout clause of Inter Milan’s star captain Mauro Icardi sooner than later. According to Ole magazine, it is Jose that became adamant to draw him to release the pressure which is building upon him and the club. This come as a surprise choice too because until now the manager emphasis more on centre-back repairing instead of changing other modes of position on the pitch. But whatever it is, the chase for the goal scoring hero is a fair one and near to exact striker that United dreams for so many days.

Over the history, some terrifying strikers in the world donned the red jersey. From Eric Cantona to instrumental one season stay of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the historical club rose to immense title glories. And the hunt for the same is on.

Mauro Icardi is been sensational for the Italian outfit since joining them in 2013, scoring a monstrous amount of goals over the years. Plus, he’s been the curator to lift the drowning ship of Internazionale to the shore with his never ending scoring rate.

The 5 ft. tall centre-forward has notched 101 goals in 164 appearances for the club becoming a hero instantly as due to his brilliance Inter are enjoying Champions league football after seven years. In the first game itself against Spurs, Icardi fired a thunderous volley, lashing onto a cross from Asamoah from left, down the bottom corner to spark a successful comeback at San Siro after so many years.  This also insisted him to break his duck in the season, scoring once again in the midweek against Fiorentina.

Icardi is strong, physical with the ball, pacey and intelligent in the box. His positive aspects of the play includes sitting down if the defence maintain a highline to look out for through and overhead passes and on the other side, he gets physical with his marker for a header or a tap in if the opposition defends narrowly. One problem can be his dislike in keeping possession time to time and make a run in instead he behaves as a predator without the ball to sneak past a defender without the ball to make something out of nothing.

Such type of dominance is an indeed requirement for the red half of Manchester to climb again in a steady manner. The future is doubtful over Lukaku for his agility and hungriness in front of goal is slowing down even though scoring didn’t dry up completely. United need someone far more consistent and has a lethal eye to score goals. Icardi can fill up the void and in the 25 year old Argentinian, United have the right attitude to look for.
