Chelsea midfielder Jorginho’s agent clears the air by opening up on why his agent’s move to Manchester City was halted and he joined Chelsea instead. The Italian midfielder who is happy with life in London had already agreed on a deal with English Premier League reigning champions Manchester City, claims Joao Santos, his agent.
According to Santos, his client had agreed to the principal terms to join Pep Guardiola’s side. The Citizens who at that time had their eyes on Jorginho as a replacement to their ageing Fernandinho did went on to agree on a deal with the then Napoli midfielder.
The deal though did not materialise as both Napoli and City could not agree on the transfer fee and as the deal delayed, the Blues came ahead for Maurizio Sarri and while they returned they took away his apprentice Jorginho with him at Stamford Bridge.
It was all done with Jorginho,’ Joao Santos confirmed to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
‘There was an agreement, but there was no agreement between the clubs. All parties have to agree, and one did not.
‘Then Chelsea asked what the situation was after Sarri arrived and Jorginho went to London.’
Chelsea were the ones who were smiling at the end of the deal as they snapped up both Sarri and his trusted man in the middle of the park. The deal saw Jorginho join the bLues for a fee of £52m as they were also forced to pay Sarri’s compensation to Napoli.
Jorginho who was set to pair with Guardiola after their personal agreement never thought that the tables will turn like this, but anyhow the Brazil-born Italian midfielder is enjoying life at London as the Blues have been in a good mood enjoying their winning streak.
Jorginho has proved his mettle right from day 1 at Chelsea, in Sarri’s three-man midfield formation he allows N’golo Kante to roam forward which he wasn’t able to do before his arrival. Kante sometimes more often than not opens up opposition defence and creates spaces for the forwards to get in behind. Jorginho, on the other hand, can sit back give cover to his backline. The Italian international is very well rounded as he has the defensive skills but even when placed in a role of a playmaker, he gets the job done with excellence. Jorginho is such a player who upgrades people around him in the field.
‘He is really enjoying it at Chelsea, the team is on a roll and has won four matches out of four,’ added Santos. ‘It’s a great start.
‘Going to Chelsea was a unique opportunity, the career of a player is very short and now we hope for the best.’
Jorginho is currently in his international duties for Italy where he bailed out the Azzurri from a humiliation to Poland in their UEFA Nations League opening clash. His equaliser from the spot was timely and saved Mancini’s men from an underwhelming defeat. The 26-year old midfielder will be back in action for the Blues when they face Cardiff at Stamford Bridge on 15th.
