Arsenal Already Set Their Sights On Aaron Ramsey’s Replacement, Is He Good Enough?

The Gunners are on the up and up at the moment and are interested in signing midfield maestro Ever Banega from Sevilla in the upcoming transfer window. Arsenal is prepared to offload Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey and replace the 27-year-old before his contract expires. Arsenal does have a tendency of allowing some of their players to run down their contracts and the most recent case was when Chilean talisman Alexis Sanchez decided to not extend his contract with the club and move to Manchester United during the last winter transfer window. Then manager Arsene Wenger was forced to allow Sanchez to leave for Old Trafford on a swap deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan arrive at the Emirates. But there is a similar case with Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey who is having an issue with his contract at the moment as a new deal seems unlikely.

According to the recent reports coming out of Arsenal, Ramsey is demanding a massive pay hike in order to put pen to paper for his new deal which has frustrated the club and some of the fans as well. Ramsey joined Arsenal back in 2008 and has grown in stature as a player after being sent of loan for a couple of seasons, becoming a crucial part of Arsene Wenger’s last few years in charge of the club. And despite the Welsh international keen on paying as a proper box to box central midfielder under Unai Emery, his contract expires at the end of this season. There will be no shortage of takers for Ramsey if Arsenal decides not to extend his deal at the Emirates Stadium. Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea are showing interest in the services of Ramsey as well as European champions Real Madrid.

With Ramsey on the verge of leaving Arsenal, the north London giants will have to find a suitable replacement are keeping close tabs on Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega. Banega has been a veteran of the game can operate anywhere along the midfield line maybe even as a second striker at times. With the Argentine entering the twilight years of his career, Unai Emery may see Banega as his deep-lying playmaker allowing Lucas Torreira to move higher up the pitch. What makes Banega’s move to Arsenal slightly more believable is the fact that he played under Emery for a couple of seasons at Sevilla when the Spanish boss was in charge of the La Liga club.

The duo won the Europa League in back to back seasons with Sevilla even beating Liverpool in the final and should be able to fit in well under Emery’s philosophy and style of play. However, the only negative stance regarding Emery’s appointments is that most of his new arrivals are on the wrong side of thirty while Arsenal may want to build a side for the future rather than delivering instant success. The issue with older players is that they would not be able to generate profits from their respective sales later on in their career.
