Ex-Gunner Jack Wilshere has revealed that Aaron Ramsey has ability and traits to become captain of the Arsenal football club. The Welshman has been linked with leaving the club and former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has come to the support of his former teammate.
He may have left Arsenal in the summer but the England international still has his heart at the North London club. Jack Wilshere may be a West Ham United player at the moment but his love for Arsenal is unconditional, and the midfielder wants the club to succeed immensely despite not being part of it. Wilshere’s Arsenal career was quite tragic in all fairness mainly due to his constant injury problems and that always held back his career from moving upwards. Wilshere began his career in Arsenal’s Youth Team and at just 16 years of age back in 2008, became the youngest ever league debutant for Arsenal. He very soon became a fan favorite and even the Player of the Season Award, voted by the fans during the 2010-11 season.
Due to his injury problems, Wilshere was sent out on loan by then Arsenal manager where he spent two spells at Bournemouth and Bolton Wanderers to get back to fitness and receive regular football. But in the summer, after Frenchman Arsene Wenger decided to leave the club, and Unai Emery entered the frame, Wilshere was told that his services were no longer required at Arsenal for the upcoming future. But there is one midfielder at Arsenal that Wilshere believes has great potential as a leader, and that is Welshman Aaron Ramsey.
There has been a dispute between Arsenal and Ramsey over the signing of a new contract over the past few months as the midfielder is reportedly demanding a massive pay hike in order to remain at the club. Ramsey’s current deal expires in the summer and there is significant interest from Merseyside club Liverpool who is monitoring his situation. Having spent a decade at Arsenal, Ramsey could leave the club if his demands are not met, but his former teammate Jack Wilshere has a message for the club regarding Ramsey.
The 26-year-old reportedly told news outlet Islington Gazette that Ramsey has the material to become a captain at the North London club in the future and stressed out on his achievements over the past few seasons,
“For me, he is a future Arsenal captain. I know he loves the club. It is difficult for me to comment on because I am not there but I do know he’s a great player – if it was me I know I would want to keep him around. He is a great guy to have around. He has been at the club so long and knows it inside out. If you look at what he has done for the club too.”
Ramsey has scored a total of 59 goals for Arsenal in 339 appearances for the club so far, two most importantly coming in the FA Cup finals which helped Arsenal end a long drought without silverware. He has been a key part of the team for quite some time and there is still a mixed bag of feelings about his departure.
It will be all up to Emery to decide whether he needs the player for his future plans or not. If the Spaniard can get in new stars to fill his void, he may go ahead and make the sale. Stay tuned and keep following us for more updates.
