Manchester City superstar David Silva is breaking plenty of records in the Premier League and some of them are even held by a few of the greatest players that graced the English League. The Spanish midfield maestro has been extremely immense for his manager Pep Guardiola in Manchester City’s superb start this campaign.
There were many reasons as to why Manchester City won the Premier League with record points last season. The Blue half of Manchester took the English league by storm and won the title with quite some ease toward the end. But there was one key player who was instrumental for City’s success that went quite under the radar even though Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne received plenty of plaudits for his performances in the attacking third. And that subtle player was Spanish star David Silva who was absolutely a joy for neutral football fans to watch. His passing ability is quite unlike anyone else in the Premier League as he can set the tempo of the game for his side and also create chances for his teammates effortlessly.
It seems like the 32 year old is just getting better with age as he progresses. Silva was at his usual best when Manchester City faced Burnley at Turf Moor this weekend as he notched up two high quality assists is both the halves to help his side earn three points against a stubborn Burnley defense. Burnley manager Sean Dyche set up his team very organized and defensive in order to prevent a rout and they did very well until the first half as they trailed by just one goal. David Silva set up Sergio Aguero from the left hand side of the pitch for the Argentine to tap in an easy finish. But Burnley kept their defense rigid until just before the hour mark.
A lapse in concentration from the Burnley defense allowed Silva to pounce on a loose ball and the Spaniard fed Bernardo Silva to claim his second assist in the game. City eventually managed to unlock the floodgates after as they secured a 5-0 win at the Stadium Of Manchester but it was all led down to David Silva’s inspired showings in midfield as he ran things for the home side. With these incredible performances Silva has put himself on the brink of breaking another Premier League record.
After the Burnley victory Silva became only the fourth player in Premier League history to assist more than one goal in a game on more than twelve occasions. Only Ryan Giggs with (17), Cesc Fabregas with (17) and Thierry Henry with (13) have done so in more games. And who would bet past Silva to break past the Arsenal legend’s record in a few more games after performances like those.
Manchester City currently sits on top of the Premier League, but is joint on points with Merseyside club Liverpool and will now want to create a gap between them and the top. And the two giants in Premier League football are still unbeaten in England’s top flight so far.
