Reports suggest that Manchester United might be forced to hold on to Paul Pogba till the end of the current campaign, though he might want to leave and join Barcelona. Rumours have suggested that the former Juventus man wants to move to the Nou Camp, though the former Serie A champs are also interested in re-signing him and will jump into the race to add him to their squad.
However, the main story developing here is the one that suggests that the English side will have to take some major steps to keep hold of him.
The Express states that the midfielder’s relationship with his manager is not the best and it was once again evident, as he was taken off in the 3-1 loss to West Ham. With that being said, there were rumours that the player might leave in the New Year, though it will be up to United now to keep hold of him.
The World Cup winner is a key player of the team at the moment and it will not be advisable to lose him at such a stage, when the team is already struggling. Things don’t seem to be getting any better for the Portuguese manager and he needs every player that he can keep hold of.
This means that he will have to retain Pogba, who has taken his time to settle into the system at Old Trafford and has already adjusted to the pace of the top flight of English football. Fred is fairly new to the Premier League and Matic has looked out of sorts too.
Even if both stars start playing at their very best, they will not be able to outshine Pogba on his best and it is something Mourinho knows. On the other hand, Sanchez has been a problem for him too, with the Chilean international failing to deliver for the Red Devils, since joining them from Arsenal.
The attacker has put in some lacklustre performances and this will be a huge concern for Mourinho and his team. With some of the other players too out of form, this might become a major talking point for the main-man.
Due to this, it only makes sense that he holds on to Pogba till the summer transfer window, when the fate of some of these stars can be decided once and for all. If the Frenchman goes now, it could result in a mid-season crisis and the team might end up having one of their worst seasons so far.
Mourinho and the higher management will surely be aware of that and will want to avoid such a situation, as it would disrupt the entire dressing room and make things really go bad. Already Martial and Rojo are two players who were not having the best of times with Mourinho and he has started to lose new stars now.
Slowly and suddenly things are becoming like they were at Chelsea and it seems that the end could be near for the former Real Madrid and Blues’ boss. What happens next, only time will tell.
