Manchester United have been given a massive boost regarding the transfer of Bayern Munich central defender Mats Hummels in the upcoming transfer window. The German defender is reportedly keen on moving away from the Allianz Arena in the next few months keeping Manchester United on red alert.
Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are currently struggling in the Premier League as they languish in 8th place on the league table. The Red Devils have already succumbed to three losses and were also humiliated by Derby County as the lowly divisional side dumped the Premier League giants out of the League Cup surmounting the pressure on under-fire manager Jose Mourinho. The cantankerous Portuguese boss has not helped out in his own situation causing more unrest in the dugout as well as the fans.
Although most of the Manchester United faithful are still backing Mourinho there is an inevitability that he will get the sack sometime in the near future. Moreover the losses he has suffered this season; it’s the manner in which a giant club like Manchester United is facing these losses. There is also a rift between players and the manager with reports claiming that the 55-year-old has lost half of his dressing room. Feuds with French talisman Paul Pogba were the recent highlights of Manchester United as the ace midfielder was stripped of his captaincy at the club as well as other issues with the two mega personalities clashing with their respective egos. However, one main reason that the ‘Special One’ is frustrated is that the transfer board failed to lure in a top quality center-back in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward was not willing to splash massive amounts of transfer funds on a central defender and Mourinho claimed that the club will be in for a difficult season as they have to rely on the current stock. And having conceded 14 goals already in the Premier League this term, Mourinho was right to identify his problem which mainly lies in the heart of the defense. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have been quite average while Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have not yet managed to stamp their authority in Mourinho’s side. The Portuguese manager now wants a new defender at the club and is eyeing a world class defender in the form of Mats Hummels.
The 29-year-old German World Cup winner has been a rotational squad player under current Bayern boss Niko Kovac and Hummels is frustrated at the lack of game time at the home of the Bundesliga champions. Hummels joined Bayern Munich back in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund and despite winning two German league titles in a row he has his future under jeopardy.
With Hummels looking for an exit from Bayern Munich, Manchester United will be hoping to strike a deal with the European giants and lure the highly rated defender to Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window in January.
