Manchester United Targeting Another Wonder Kid, Can He Make A Difference?

Jose Mourinho

The Red Devils are keen on signing AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini in the upcoming January transfer window to bolster their side, after a rather poor start to the new campaign. The struggling Premier League giants need to look for some inspiration to get their season back on track and the arrival of a new young signing could be the motivation that Jose Mourinho and his team require at present.

It’s unfamiliar territory for Manchester United as they currently sit 8th in the Premier League table and are having a torrid season with fans criticizing players for not putting in the effort on the pitch and manager Jose Mourinho being cantankerous by dividing the blame on others in the board. There were plenty of rumors of the Portuguese boss reportedly getting the sack as soon as this week but a recent 3-2 win over Newcastle United papered over the cracks at Old Trafford.

One thing for sure is the feud between Paul Pogba and Mourinho with the two big personalities clashing with their egos. One of the two is likely to leave the club very soon and with the fans backing the manager it could well be the French midfielder who exits Old Trafford. And Manchester United needs to purchase a suitable replacement for the World Cup man, whom they spent €100m back in the summer of 2016.

So far, one of the highly linked players to the Red side of Manchester is Italian starlet Lorenzo Pellegrini as the young attacker is showing massive growth in the Serie A. Pellegrini is a talented midfield gem and United have contacted Roma over a deal quite a few times showing a keen interest in the 22-year-old. A tall and physical box to box midfielder who can adapt in any role in the center of the pitch, Pellegrini can be deployed as a defensive or attacking midfielder. He can also be used in a midfield three and his combative nature including an eye for goal makes him one of the most promising young players across the European continent.

Pellegrini initially began his youth career at AS Roma in 2007 but was then sold to Sassuolo back in 2015 where he spent two years with the Italian club scoring eight goals and notching up eight assists in his second season which prompted Roma to bring him back to the capital club. Pellegrini slowly but surely began to make his way into the first team at Roma helping them reach the semifinals of the Champions League last term where they lost to Liverpool.

Pellegrini has begun this season well scoring once and providing three assists across all competitions already but is still finding his feet as a replacement for Radja Nainggolan as the Belgian left Roma in the summer. United will be hoping to lure in the talented midfielder this January in order to improve their chances of finishing in the top 4 this season. Also, valued at €30m, he would be a steal as Pellegrini would fit in well with Jose Mourinho’s style of play.
