Match Report: Manchester United Claim Win Against Everton At Old Trafford

Jose Mourinho

Manchester United have got the edge over Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday in the Premier League. With this win Manchester United have moved to the eighth position in the League Table. They have collected 17 points from their 10 games so far in this season. On the other hand, Everton have gone to the ninth position in the Premier League table with 15 points in same number of matches so far. The Red Devils were behind Everton in the League Table before the beginning of the match. In this circumstances, Jose Mourinho has opted to give rest to Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku against Everton at Old Trafford.

Romelu Lukaku has not got a single goal for the Red Devils in last five matches in all competitions. So, the Belgian centre forward was rightly dropped to the bench. Jose Mourinho has opted to start with a same backline against Everton like the last Premier League match against Chelsea. Fred came in place of Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata went to the winger position for the Red Devils in this match. On the other hand, under the management of Marco Silva, Everton were playing good football in this season. So, the manager decided to field the unchanged the starting lineup against Manchester United too.

Manchester United took the lead in the match when Idrissa Gueye tackled Anthony Martial in the penalty box and a penalty had been awarded. Paul Pogba went to take the penalty ; but his shot was saved by the English National side’s Goalkeeper Pickford. The rebound went straight to Paul Pogba and this time he made no mistake to put it into the Goal. The first half of the match ended with a scoreline of 1-0 at Old Trafford in favour of the Red Devils.

Just after the beginning of the second half of match, Manchester United doubled their lead in the match. At the 49th minute of the match, Paul Pogba provided a brilliant ball towards Anthony Martial. Anthony Martial’s right footed curler has left Pickford with no clue. It was seeming to be an easy contest for the Red Devils and they were looking a better side with the absence of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku. Bernard missed the golden opportunity to score from an open net. But at the 77th minute of the match, Richarlison was fouled in the penalty box of Manchester United by Chris Smalling. Gylfi Sigurdsson scored from the spot to make the scoreline 2-1. The referee gave six minutes of injury time. The pressure was building up on Manchester United. They got the chance to kill the game off twice. Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial missed two golden opportunities to seal the game for Manchester United.

The attacks of Everton were not sufficient to break the Manchester United defense again in this match and the match ended with a scoreline of 2-1 in favour of Manchester United. The Red Devils will now get some confidence that is much needed as Manchester Derby is going to come within few weeks.
