An Update On The Future Of Mateo Kovacic, With Chelsea Considering An Extended Stay?

One of the unbeaten sides of Premier League and everything is going sound and healthy for the Blues. The Stamford Bridge is now a happy place and Maurizio Sarri is leading his side to the greater path of football. Chelsea are now at third position in the Premier League table with eight wins and four draws after twelve matches. The team looks adapted and admirable where the squad is looking flawless. Whether it is defence, midfield or attack, Sarri has a lot of options on the bench. Moreover the most versatile section of this side is their midfield. Usually Sarri prefers to with vintage 4-3-3 where he usually puts in Kante, Jorginho and Barkley or Kovacic, having Fabregas in the bench.

The arrival of Jorginho and Kovacic this season has made the side even stronger. Jorginho came from Napoli along with Sarri and Kovacic is still on loan. According to the news, the Blues have no intentions to secure the services of Mateo Kovacic from on a permanent transfer. It is being known that a permanent clause was not the part of the initial loan agreement which took place between the two clubs for the Croatian international earlier this year.

The 24-year-old Real Madrid guy has made 12 appearances for Chelsea this season and has only one assist to show for his certificate. However he used to start for the side earlier but now he has lost his first-team place to Ross Barkley in recent weeks. The English midfielder is currently enjoying a rich vein of form after a string of goal-scoring performances at West London.

The emergence of Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also pushing Kovacic down the place for Sarri’s starting eleven. The 22-year-old has also added more competition for the Croatian which has thrown his long-term future at Stamford Bridge in doubt. Kovacic is 24 and he needs to secure more game time if he wants to improve to take his game to the next level. Though it seems he is losing his spot day by day in Sarri’s mathematics. The Linz-born talent has not been able to earn regular first-team opportunities at the club level over the past few years. Despite those hurdles, Kovacic is a willing runner in midfield and can dribble with the ball. He can make some powerful runs behind the opposition defence and he is also physically strong with an accomplished passing mind inside.

The Croatian midfielder is also vastly experienced at the highest level as evidenced by his remarkable contributions for Croatia in their fairy-tale run to the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup at Russia. One just shouldn’t have any doubt about Kovacic’s talent, but the fact is Chelsea have a lots of options in midfield which include the options like Barkley, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Danny Drinkwater and Loftus-Cheek. So it could be safe to assume that letting the Croatian go would not be a great mistake for the Blues and it wouldn’t be so disastrous for either side, Chelsea and Kovacic also.
