According to the latest reports, Liverpool have made a shocking offer for Athletic Bilbao to sign their star attacker Iker Muniain in the upcoming winter transfer window. The Reds are competing for the Premier League title this campaign and need more firepower to attack and break down stubborn defenses.
Liverpool currently sits on 2nd place in the Premier League table and are joint top with table-toppers Manchester City on points. But Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is well aware that it will be a long and difficult season, therefore, he may need to re-enforce his squad in the winter transfer window. Last season, Manchester City finished with 100 points and Klopp needs to do something special to beat that record if Liverpool is to get anywhere close.
Despite having made major transfer recruitments over the summer transfer window by signing in the likes of Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri, Liverpool is still looking for that missing in attacking midfield. The Merseyside outfit missed out on their prime target Nabil Fekir from Lyon and they want that extra dynamism in attack to provide killer passes to their attackers.
The latest report from Spanish outlet Marca claims that a host of top clubs in Europe are on the lookout for Athletic Bilbao forward Iker Muniain in the upcoming transfer window. The 25-year old’s contract with the Spanish outfit expires at the end of this summer and Muniain is also keen on a move away from the San Mames Stadium in order to win some trophies before his career comes to an end.
The two major clubs interested in signing Muniain on a free transfer in the summer transfer window include Serie A side Napoli, and Premier League giants Liverpool. Both these clubs have reportedly made an offer to Bilbao as they plan on competing for domestic and European glory this campaign.
Liverpool will look at Munian as an alternative to Fekir, as he is dubbed the ‘Spanish Messi’ due to his quick movement and ability to play that killer passes in the attacking third. Munian has spent nine and a half seasons at Bilbao and netted 51 times for his boyhood club in the La Liga. A gifted attacker, Munian can operate anywhere along the frontline as he is extremely versatile. However, it’s unlikely that he would get a starting role directly at Anfield following the brilliant displays of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane from the previous season.
If Liverpool should make a move for Muniain in the January transfer market as they have a great shot at winning the Premier League title this term. Hopefully, Athletic Bilbao agrees to let him leave but he is essential to their attacking line up so it could prove to be difficult for Muniain to leave Spain. More so, Muniain has spent his whole career at Bilbao and he is currently leaning towards extending his contract with the Spanish outfit at the moment. Liverpool may have to offer a massive price to allow Muniain to leave the La Liga club.
