Chelsea are at risk of losing Brazilian defender David Luiz at the end of next season. The Brazilian international is currently on the wrong side of thirty will be a free agent at the end of this season as there are no signs of a contract extension at the Stamford Bridge as Luiz still wants to stay in London playing for the Blues.
The club are currently hopeful that German defender Antonio Rudiger will be next in line to follow the likes of N’Golo Kante, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso in extending his contract with Chelsea and committing his future at the Stamford Bridge.
However, David Luiz will be getting pre-contract offers from January 1st and the club are only willing to sign a one-year extension with the 31-year old defender mainly because of his age and it may force him to look elsewhere.
The Brazilian gave a superb individual performance against Manchester City in their 2-0 over the then League leaders. It was Luiz who came up with a goal in the second half as he headed the ball in from a corner. It was a brilliant corner as the Brazilian rose up above everybody getting a clear connection with the ball as it went past his compatriot Ederson in goal.
When asked about his future at Chelsea after his superb display against Manchester City, Luiz said: “I am just trying to enjoy myself, like I do every single day. Then, for sure, we will do the best thing for me, for Chelsea, for everybody.
He was also quizzed whether he would accept the one-year extension with the club, Luiz added: “We are still talking, let’s see. Let’s see what the future brings. I love this club, everybody knows I want to stay.”
This is David Luiz’s second stint at the Stamford Bridge, at first he joined from Portuguese side SL Benfica and that was back in 2011. He was then allowed to join Paris Saint Germain in 2014 as he developed a great defensive partnership with compatriot Thiago Silva. However shockingly the Brazilian defender made his way back to Premier League in the 2016/17 season and joined the Blues for his second stint.
Now with pressure mounting on the 31-year old Brazilian and the club only opting to trigger the one year added extension, it seems like David Luiz will now have to look elsewhere, either in January or definitely at the end of the season.
The news about the defenders is pretty fresh amid doubts over Alvaro Morata creeps in as the former Real Madrid and Juventus man is being kept on the bench and is certainly one of those out of favour players under new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri. Reports also suggest that the forward may look to force out a move from Stamford Bridge in this winter transfer itself.
The 26-year old forward was left out of the squad in their crunch fixture against Manchester City which they eventually won. This move from Sarri proves that Alvaro Morata is not in his long-term plans something which Morata will be very wary off.
Morata’s days in Chelsea under Sarri look numbered as the Blues are looking for a new striker in the January transfer window.
