According to the latest reports from news outlet Calciomercato, European powerhouses Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Napoli, and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing French right back Benjamin Pavard in the winter transfer window. The defender played a massive part in the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia when France conquered the major tournament.
A World Cup tournament can really change a players life for the best and Benjamin Pavard fits the bill at the moment because there are a host of elite clubs across the European continent who is monitoring his situation at Bundesliga club Stuttgart at the moment. Although Stuttgart is not really a massive club on a continental stage, they have a World Cup winner in the form of Pavard.
The French right-back rose to fame when he scored an absolute screamer against South American country Argentina during the World Cup sending Lionel Messi’s dream crashing back in the summer. Pavard usually operates as a central defender for Stuttgart but played on the right-hand side of defense for France and now Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham are interested in his services along with Bayern Munich.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is currently sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table having won 14 games and drawn three out of 17 played. The Merseyside club remains the only unbeaten side in England’s top flight division and is showing their ability in challenging for the title against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Having conceded only seven goals so far, Liverpool also holds the tightest defense in the league and that is mainly down to their improvement in the back-line.
The Reds broke the bank to sign Dutch central defender Virgil Van Dijk last winter transfer window when they splashed out £75m for the ex-Southampton man. Liverpool’s defense was strengthened even further when Alisson Becker arrived from AS Roma in the summer and Joe Gomez has stepped up to the big occasion as well. However, with the current defensive injury worries at Liverpool, Klopp is looking at alternatives to reassure his rearguard and Benjamin Pavard is on that list.
Even Tottenham Hotspur are on the lookout to sign another central defender in January as Belgian superstar Toby Alderweireld is having some contract disputes with the board. Alderweireld is one of the best center-backs in the Premier League and is targeted by some of Europe’s top clubs and Spurs need to look at a backup option for the 29-year-old if they want to compete for trophies.
Even Bayern Munich was heavily linked with the 22-year-old Pavard in the summer transfer window but there were no concrete details emerging from the Allianz Arena of interest in the young versatile defender. Reports from the Calciomercato claim that Pavard is valued to be at around €35 million as per his release clause in his current deal. His ball playing ability, heading and composure are some of the major traits that are keeping him at the top of the list for clubs to sign him from German side Stuttgart.
