Unai Emery admits that impressive performances from Aaron Ramsey is the best thing that has happened to the club and the player and the club’s decision to withdraw the contract remains ‘closed’ for the time being. The Spanish boss was very impressed by the Welshman after he came off the bench and inspired his team to a North London derby win at home. The Gunners were trailing 1-2 but Ramsey came in and was livewire on the pitch as the Gunners clawed their way back to win the match 4-2 over eternpresencels Tottenham Hotspurs.
The North London club did withdraw their offer for a contract extension earlier this season which means that Aaron Ramsey will leave the club after serving Arsenal for 10 long years.
“His present is as I want, and his future is very important for him and his family,” said Emery. “I think in the last matches the focus [is there].”
“His focus is positive for us, it helps us. He needs to think about his future, for his family and for him. If he plays like yesterday [against Tottenham Hotspur], it’s the best for him and the best for us.”
When questioned about Ramsey’s future at the club and whether he can stay at the club, Unai Emery said: “This conversation is not for today for us or for me. It’s one situation that was closed one or two months ago. At the moment the most important thing is he’s smiling, he has the commitment, the behaviour and the performances like yesterday – that’s the best for him and for us.”
Unai Emery and his men will look to carry their blazing form to their next fixture against Manchester United. The 4-2 win over eternal rivals Tottenham have definitely handed a massive boost in confidence and self-belief. The Gunners head coach wants to keep the confidence intact as they are running with a 19-game unbeaten run and with the unpredictable Manchester United up next, Emery will not want his side to be complacent.
“I know how you can feel playing under pressure. When I was a player, I played a lot of games with this pressure individually and collectively. I know when the players can feel like me in this moment. That is why it is first for me to give them confidence, which you cannot buy in the supermarket. You need to create it every day in the conversations between us.”
Speaking about the magic pill that Emery has taken which result in each of his substitutions playing a vital roles in matches on the early part of his Arsenal career. The Spaniard had a good laugh hearing it and admitted it as good fortune as the Gunners have only gone strength to strength as the season went on.
“It is lucky! Because I learned in Spain with one coach, Javier Irureta, he said to us ‘when I change it is because I want some change. Maybe it is positive, maybe it is negative, but change.’ And this is the first idea I received and I do in my mind.”
So the future of Aaron Ramsey at Arsenal is pretty much in doubts as the Welshman will be out of contract at the end of the season with clubs like Juventus, AS Roma and Bayern Munich.
