According to the latest reports, Premier League side Arsenal is in the hunt to sign Bayern Munich midfield gem James Rodriguez in the January transfer window in order to bolster their attacking department. Rodriguez is still on a loan deal at Bayern from La Liga club Real Madrid but with the lack of football at the German club, Arsenal is looking to lure him to the Emirates on a loan deal until the end of the season. The Gunners do not wish to buy right now and a temporary deal could be on the cards at present.
Ever since taking over Arsenal in the summer from legendary French manager Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery has done a decent job with his team so far. The Gunners currently sit in fifth place on the Premier League table and are in the hunt to finish in the top 4 in order to play Champions League football in the next season. Wenger was in charge of Arsenal for 22 years and despite the success that he achieved in that tenure, his philosophy and style grew stale and Arsenal was in dire need for some new tactics.
Along came Emery in the summer and has breathed some fresh life into the squad. Arsenal went on a tremendous run of 22 games without defeat across all competitions this season but is still in 5th place on the Premier League table. Local London rivals Chelsea are in fourth place six points ahead of the Gunners but Emery will want to bring in some quality players in the January transfer market in order to push for a top 4 spot.
With Aaron Ramsey set to leave the club, Arsenal will have to look for a suitable replacement in the winter that can pick up the role of the Welshman. The 27-year-old midfielder is not penning a new deal with Arsenal and could either move in January or in the summer transfer window when his current contract expires. More so, World Cup winner Mesut Ozil is finding it difficult to find a starting berth at Arsenal and is barely getting any game time which suggests that there is some discomfort between Emery and the German star playmaker. The 47-year-old Spanish boss has stated that he will opt against using Ozil in tough away matches as he feels that the 30-year-old doesn’t really fit into Emery’s physical system.
Therefore, Emery is looking to sign a replacement until the end of the season and has identified Colombian superstar James Rodriguez as a potential candidate for Arsenal. The 27-year-old attacker has the creativity to unlock the tightest of defenses and also works hard for the team and has been on loan from Real Madrid at Bayern Munich since 2017.
Rodriguez has not been able to get regular football at the Allianz Arena under Niko Kovac and wants to play more often, something he can achieve at Arsenal. A loan deal for Rodriguez would be a temporary solution for Arsenal as the Colombian is comfortable playing on the wing as well as through the middle, unlike Ozil.
