Deal Done: European Giants Have Signed Liverpool And Tottenham Target, What Will Be The Effect?

World cup winner, Benjamin Pavard has signed a five year deal with German champions Bayern Munich. The ex Stuttgart defender will join them on July for £31.4m. Bavarian club’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic was quoted, “I can announce that we managed to get the services of Benjamin Pavard for five years starting from 1 July 2019.  Pavard is a young player and a world champion. We are delighted and very proud to have been able to secure the services of a player like him.”

Benjamin Pavard caught some eyes while playing for Stuttgart last season due to which he was called into the World cup squad by Didier Deschamps. Pavard replaced experienced Benjamin Mendy in quite few matches. Pavard enjoyed an impressive World Cup in Russia, scoring a spectacular goal in his country’s win over Argentina in the round of 16. This crucial goal was adjudged the Goal of the Tournament.

Stuttgart has struggled this season and sit in 16th place in the Bundesliga. Bayern sit 6 points from the top against rivals Borussia Dortmund after the Bavarian team has seen quite a few shackles under new manager Niko Kovac. The defender has also been offered to Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo. However, any move would depend on Sergi Roberto moving back into midfield. Pavard was also linked to both the Manchester Clubs for a brief time. City would have been a great choice for Pavard where he would join the ranks of Walker, Mendy. Signing for United it would see him in first team action very soon with only Shaw and Dalot among the young full-backs.

Earlier this year, Stuttgart sporting director Michael Reschke had said that they would be selling the player, though it seems that changed rather quickly. Pavard’s immediate availability was in question, after the player had suffered a muscle tear in his thigh in Stuttgart’s match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, which saw him sidelined for at least the rest of the month.

Despite that, the deal has been completed and the player has made the move to the Allianz arena already, which is just awesome news for the fans of the club. They will be hoping that he can live up the expectations now.

The World Cup winner was wanted by the Premier League duo of Tottenham and Liverpool, as they looked to sign more defensive reinforcements. With that being said, it seems that the champions of Germany have made a really good buy and will be looking to capitalize on this.

They are themselves in the hunt to win the Champions League and are at present trailing to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga too. With a player like Pavard amongst their ranks, it would be a huge boost for the German champions and they now want to make the most of it. This has not been the best season for them so far and it will be up to the players and the manager now to turn things around and produce better results, after such a positive signing has been already made.
