Will This Top Manager Be Replacing Solskjaer At Manchester United At The End Of The Season?

According to the latest reports, a stunning name has emerged to the list of managers who are set to coach Manchester United football club in the summer and it is none other than current England manager Gareth Southgate. The Englishman will have to decide on whether he would prefer to apply for the job at Manchester United and step down as the manager of the England national team that he is in charge of at the moment.

Things aren’t so rosy for Manchester United fans in this day and age as gone are those times when they would be up there at the top of the table and playing some lovely eye-catching football that the whole world admired. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, United became the most successful club in England as the Scottish legend won an incredible 38 major honors during his 26-year spell with Manchester United from 1986 till 2013. However since then, Manchester United has failed to find the suitable replacement for the 77-year-old Ferguson after having David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, and Jose Mourinho and even with Ryan Giggs taking over as caretaker of the club after Moyes’ abrupt departure midway through the 2014 season.

Most recently, Jose Mourinho faced the wrath of the United faithful as the fans and the management board had enough of his old-time antics and cantankerous behavior. Despite winning three trophies during his three-year reign at Old Trafford, United sacked the Portuguese manager after a horrendous start to the 2018/19 season. Arch rivals Liverpool hammered the final nail in Mourinho’s coffin as a Manchester United manager and the ‘Special One’ got the sack just before Christmas after a battering 3-1 defeat against the Reds.

Former Manchester United star and forward, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was decided as the new Manchester United boss who would coach the club till the end of the season at least until a permanent candidate will be appointed. In 5 games so far, Solskjaer has had an incredible run in his short return to Old Trafford as the Norwegian has managed to win all his 5 games as United boss so far. With positive football and results, Solskjaer has managed to win over the fans already and his first major test comes up against his competitor for the job at the end of the season Mauricio Pochettino.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager has been heavily linked to taking up the job at Manchester United after Mourinho’s dismissal and could well do so by the end of the season. But along with former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, England manager Gareth Southgate has been the latest name on the list of the possible candidates to take up the job at United in the summer.

Southgate signed a contract to remain with England until the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following a great feat in Russia leading the Three Lions to the semi-finals of the tournament. Southgate will find it difficult to jump ship after renewing a new deal but he has managed only Middlesbrough between 2006-2009 which proves lack of experience at club level management.
