Chelsea are one those clubs, who show high-level of professionalism. They always try to form a squad that includes the best player for every position, not a strong eleven, but a squad of 11 strong 1’s. In order to do so, they do not even think twice before releasing or selling some of their long-term servants to bring young talented prospects at the club. One of the best examples of that was the summer transfer window in 2012. Right after winning the UEFA Champions League that year, they let go some their iconic and legendary players including Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou to sign bunch of youngsters including Eden Hazard, Oscar, Cesar Azpilicueta and many others.
Chelsea may shake up their squad once again in the upcoming summer transfer window as they have a few players who don’t fit at the club anymore!
1) Gary Cahill
The 33-years-old defender was one of those Chelsea players who lost his position in the starting line-up under Maurizio Sarri.
Following the departure of the club legend John Terry, he was handed over the captain armband. He was a regular under Antonio Conte and his performances in the league and cup competitions earned him a spot in the 2018 England World Cup squad. He was, though, not a first choice defender for his national side in Russia and that story remained same even after the world cup.
The David Luiz-Antonio Rudiger pair has always been preferred by Maurizio Sarri since the start of the season, turning the experienced centre-back into a bench-warmer. Though he made some guest appearances for his side this season, his growing frustration due to lack of game time is not a secret.
He was heavily linked with another London side Fulham FC during the winter transfer window in January but decided to stay at Chelsea and fight for his position in the playing eleven.
There is still no sign of improvement regarding his situation at the club. This may lead him to leave the Blues at the end of this season.
