Zidane wants Chelsea board to back him in the transfer market if he joins the Blues as their new manager. The Frenchman had a stellar managerial stint with Real Madrid and since then he has been a hot prospect among managers across Europe. Chelsea who are in doldrums currently with Maurizio Sarri losing the plot on a lot of times, sacking of the Italian looks inevitable now and can happen if the Blues lose against Manchester City in the English League Cup on Sunday.
The Londoners are looking to bring in Zinedine Zidane as his replacement. The Frenchman is out of work since leaving the Los Blancos last summer. But the World Cup winner wants re-assurance from the Chelsea board to back him in the transfer market and then only he can consider taking the charges of the helm at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea made one signing in the summer transfer window- Jorginho from Napoli for £57m. It was a signing which Sarri preferred. The Blues signed Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund and loaned him back there for the rest of the season. The club diverged their transfer policy for Sarri as he wanted his former forward Gonzalo Higuain The veteran Argentine was snapped up by the Blues on loan in the winter transfer window.
According to reports from Daily Mail, Zidane will only consider his position at the Stamford Bridge if the club officials back him with a good transfer budget to make the recruitment better. Chelsea have a handful of ageing players and an overhaul is required sooner than later, hence Zidane wants the club to back him financially so that he can consider the Blues as an option.
Zidane’s arrival at the helm will be a boost for the Blues and will alo increase the chances of keeping Eden Hazard at the club. The Belgian’s admiration for the French World Cup winner is no secret and was eager to join him when he was managing at Real Madrid.
Hazard is currently in a tricky situation with 16 months left in his contract and with him reaching his prime he would consider a move to Madrid but with Zidane joining the club it can change drastically. However, the 28-year old winger has also promised to reveal his future at the end of this season.
Chelsea are currently in the sixth position in the league table and with Sarri being out of favour among most of the Chelsea fans, the upcoming English League Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday may decide his fate at the Stamford Bridge.
However, the rumours also involve managers like Diego Simeone and former player and current manager at Derby County, Franck Lampard to take the charges from the Italian. Zidane is also rumoured to be an option for Juventus who are also not having a great season in Italy. Although the Bianconeri are leading the Serie but winning the league is like a norm for them now. Allegri’s men already out of the Coppa Italia and have an uphill task in the Champions League after losing 0-2 against Atletico Madrid in the first leg. Things are not looking nice for Allegri this campaign and hence they are looking alternatives with Zidane right on top of the wish-list.
