According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Manchester United are looking to break the bank to sign another superstar from Juventus in the summer as Paulo Dybala is the number one target on the Red Devils’ list. However, the condition that Dybala will join the Premier League side would follow if Belgian star Romelu Lukaku leaves Old Trafford.
Manchester United fans have got their smiles back on their faces ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been at the helm. The Norwegian took over as caretaker of the club back in December and has lost only one of his first 16 games in charge of the club across all competitions. Solskjaer has changed the fortunes that United fans were seeing under Jose Mourinho and has lifted the club into fourth place and well in contention for a Champions League berth. Under the Portuguese boss, United was playing very defensive football and not with the intent to win games. The lack of desire made the football look dire and without positive results, Mourinho’s sack was only a matter of time.
However, with attacking football and positive results at the moment under Solskjaer, the interim boss has put himself in line to take up the job on a permanent basis.
If Solskjaer takes up the job, he will be looking to build a solid team to challenge for silverware and therefore some quality players could arrive at Old Trafford. Just a few years ago, United broke the bank to bring back prodigal son Paul Pogba from Juventus in a £100m deal. The Frenchman has been pivotal for United ever since and his performances have been top notch when he plays with some freedom.
The 25-year-old is key to United’s attack as well as defense and his flashiness and flair is sometimes a boon or a bane. But Pogba is still United’s record signing and the former Premier League champions want to change that in the summer if things go according to plan.
Romelu Lukaku was one of the best players in the English top flight only a few years ago but his decline has been very steep over the past season or so. His sloppy touches and missing of big chances were quite regular under Mourinho but Solskjaer is now trying to bring out the best out of the Belgian. Most of the United fans want the 25-year-old striker out of Old Trafford in the summer as they believe he is not a striker who can win trophies for the club.
If Lukaku leaves, Manchester United will use those funds to lure in Juventus talisman Paulo Dybala in the summer. The Argentine superstar has proved time and again that he is one of the best players in the world and there is no way that the Serie A champions will allow Dybala to leave at a cheap price. However, United are preparing another record £120m bid in order to sign the 25-year-old attacker who impressed United scouts when the two sides faced each other in the Champions League earlier this season.
