According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Chelsea have been keeping tabs on Swedish striker Alexander Isak who is currently on loan at Dutch side Willem II from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund at the moment. The teenager is enjoying a superb goal-scoring run of form in the Eredivisie and Chelsea are interested in signing him up.
Ever since Maurizio Sarri took charge of the Chelsea football club back in the summer of 2018, he has done quite a respectable job by replacing fellow Italian compatriot Antonio Conte at the helm. The former Napoli master tactician received plenty of praise and plaudits from fans and pundits across the globe when he brought his attractive and effective brand of football into the English Premier League. The 60-year-old Sarri led Chelsea to the finals of the League Cup but eventually lost out to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the penalty shootout. The Blues have also made it to the quarterfinals of the Europa League and look like certain contenders to go all the way and win the continental tournament. However, Chelsea are also facing an uphill battle to finish inside the top four of the Premier League table in order to be eligible to play in the Champions League next season.
The main problem for Chelsea this season has been the lack of goals from their forward players. Barring Belgian superstar Eden Hazard, Chelsea hasn’t really had a proper striker who can bang in the goals on a regular basis for them. Misfiring Spanish forward Alvaro Morata was sent on loan to Atletico Madrid in the January winter transfer window and Chelsea brought in Gonzalo Higuaín on a loan deal as a replacement. But the 31-year-old Argentine has not really managed to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge. Sarri wants to bring in a proper striker at the club and someone who can also be a target man up front.
The Blues have reportedly sent scouts to keep tabs on Alexander Isak, who is currently on loan at Willem II from Borussia Dortmund. The scouts have been impressed as 19-year-old has netted 11 times in 11 appearances for the Dutch side and the last 10 of those goals have come in his last six appearances for Willem II. His tall figure means that he is able to hold up play in front and allow his teammates to get into the game as well.

As he is born in Sweden, Isak has drawn comparisons to legendary forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic and also been nicknamed as ‘Giraffe’. Dortmund signed the teenage sensation back in January 2017 for a transfer fee of £14m as they beat La Liga giants Real Madrid to his signature. Isak has been unhappy at the prospect of being loaned out and has admitted that he could be looking for a move away from Willem at the end of the season, “I want to play for a really big club in a big league. I will see about my near future at the end of this season.”
Chelsea are in the hunt for Isak but can only bring him to England if their transfer ban is lifted.
