Former Liverpool Star Has Transfer Advice For Manchester United, Chelsea Fans Would Be Interested

Ex-Liverpool superstar Dominic Matteo has recently revealed that he would like to see Chelsea midfielder N’golo Kante replace Ander Herrera and Manchester United if the Spaniard leaves the club to join Paris Saint Germain in the upcoming summer transfer window. Herrera’s current contract with Manchester United ends in the summer and it doesn’t look probable that he will sign a contract extension.

Ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken charge of Manchester United football club back in December, he has exceeded expectations. The Norwegian was hired initially just as a caretaker to add stability and positivity until the end of the season but with his impressive displays in the first 20 games, the club has decided to hand a three-year contract for Solskjaer so that he can remain the permanent manager of the club. Solskjaer has guided United into the quarter-finals of the Champions League in a dramatic manner and he has also re-ignited the hopes for the Red Devils to finish inside the top 4 this season and obtain a Champions League berth.

Solskjaer is well aware that he needs reinforcements in the upcoming summer transfer window if United are to compete for silverware in the near future. There are a few players that are coming to the end of their contracts as well and one of those United players is Ander Herrera. The Spanish box to box midfielder was looking like a player revitalized over the last few weeks until a unfortunate injury. Herrera is reportedly wanted by Paris Saint Germain and could leave Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of the summer.

However, in a shocking statement made by former Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo, United can sign Chelsea midfielder N’golo Kante to replace the 29-year-old Herrera if he leaves the club. While speaking on Man on the Main Street Show the Scotsman said, “[N’Golo] Kante’s been playing in that position for Chelsea, It does not look like he’s going to get a game there in front of Jorginho. For United, he would definitely be top of the list.”

Since Maurizio Sarri took charge of Chelsea football club back in the summer of 2018, he has done quite an incredible job by replacing fellow Italian compatriot Antonio Conte. Sarri has tweaked the formation and displaced N’golo Kante in order to accommodate Jorginho in the holding midfield role at Stamford Bridge.

The 44-year-old Matteo went on to explain that Kante is the best holding midfielder in the world and the World Cup winner should remain in that position, “He is probably the best holding midfielder in world football. If United play Herrera and [Nemanja] Matic together, there is not enough creativity. One player should sit and control things as the rest of them get forward. The top sides need to get players in the box.”

Manchester United and Chelsea have done business in the past so a move in the summer for Kante cannot completely be ruled out. But Chelsea will know that replacing Kante would be close to impossible and the Blues may not let the former Leicester City midfielder leave the club.
