According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Liverpool are looking to sign Brighton and Hove Albion winger Pascal Gross in the upcoming transfer window. The Reds are in the hunt to dethrone Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on a season-by-season basis and Jurgen Klopp wants to bolster his squad even further.
Liverpool football club are having one of their best seasons ever in England’s top flight this season as they compete against a formidable unit in the form of Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are leading the Premier League table by two points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City who has a game in hand. The race for the Premier League title will go down to the wire as the two heavyweights are locked in what seems to be a superb showdown in May. Klopp has instilled a very attacking philosophy since his arrival at Merseyside back in 2015 but over the past few seasons he has improved the leaky defense of the club as well.
Klopp signed Virgil Van Dijk during last year’s winter transfer window in a record £75 million deal and the club also lured Alisson Becker in the summer to improve on their last line of defence. This has helped Liverpool immensely as they have now kept the meanest defense in England’s top flight this season with a much more assured and pragmatic look about them. But in a strange way, Liverpool’s attack had a period where they were misfiring this year. Although Sadio Mane has been in sublime form he was not able to put in a few of his easy chances while Mohamed Salah has looked nothing like the threat he was last season over the last few weeks. Even Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino is not being able to find the net on a regular basis, which has formed a cloud of frustration at Anfield.
The Liverpool midfield is also partly to be blamed for this as they have not been backing up the attack with those penetrative passes in the final third. Liverpool were expected to sign Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir last summer but a deal fell through at the last moment. The Frenchman could have provided that extra spark in attack for the Reds and they may have regretted it this season. Klopp will now look into the summer to find another high quality attacking midfielder who can help the deadly attacking trio.

And now, according to reports, Klopp has identified his new playmaker in Brighton and Hove Albion winger Pascal Gross. This has come as a shock to most Liverpool fans but Klopp believes he can get the best out of his German compatriot. Gross joined the Seagulls back in 2017 for a transfer fee of just £3m and in his debut season, he impressed many by scoring goals and notching up eight assists as well. This season he has been used in a deeper role and he has scored only two goals and two assists. But his key passes per 90 minutes have improved, which may be the reason why Klopp would want to sign 27-year-old Gross.
