According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Liverpool are targeting Everton star striker Richarlison in the upcoming summer transfer window to bolster their squad even further. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to challenge Manchester City on a season by season basis for the Premier League title and wants to add strength in depth to his team as well.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is currently enjoying their best season in the Premier League ever since the club was formed back in 1892. The Reds are sitting at the summit of England’s top flight division and are two points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the moment. Although Manchester City still has a game in hand, Liverpool has done tremendously to still remain within touching distance of last season’s champions. Guardiola’s side broke multiple records when they stormed their way to the Premier League title last season amassing a record 100 points in the process. However, Liverpool is pushing the title challenge down to the wire as they keep up the pressure on the Blue half of Manchester.
Liverpool is also in the Champions League quarter-finals and they look like serious contenders to go on and win the competition this season. But Klopp is aware that he still needs reinforcements if he wants Liverpool to compete for major honors on a regular basis. Last season, Liverpool’s deadly attack carried them through to the finals of the elite continental competition but this season those forwards seem to have lost some of that spark and steam. The German boss now wants to add more quality attackers to his side in the summer and has a few options on his list.
Shockingly, one candidate to join Liverpool is from a club that is only a stone’s throw away at Everton. The Toffees striker Richarlison is reportedly one of the key men that Klopp is looking to sign this summer in order to add depth in his attack. The 21-year-old center-forward joined Everton only in the summer for a club record transfer fee of £35 million from Watford and has become an instant hit at Goodison Park. Having scored 12 goals and notching up one assist as well, the Brazilian has made himself a fan favorite at the Merseyside club.
Richarlison has been compared to fellow national compatriot and Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino at times and he could be an ideal back up for the 27-year-old. There is speculation around Richalison’s future at Everton and despite claiming that he is happy at Goodison Park, a move beckons in the summer. Liverpool may have to pay their fierce local rivals a transfer fee of around £50m in order to lure him to Anfield, across the city.
If Richarlison makes the move to Liverpool, he can finally realize his own potential as Klopp will be able to get the best out of the young attacker. The 51-year-old is a huge admirer of Richarlison but the move could jeopardize his career in terms of loyalty. Only four players have made the move across Stanley Park in the past, could Richarlison be the fifth?
