Liverpool Teammate Hits Back At Racist Chants Targetted Towards Mo Salah By Chelsea Fans

Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson has revealed that Mohamed Salah’s goal against Chelsea will silence the Blues fans who racially abused him before the game. The Egyptian netted a sensational strike from 25 yards out against his former club on Sunday at Anfield to help Liverpool win 2-0 over Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool moved back to the top of the Premier League table after a 2-0 win over fierce rivals Chelsea on Sunday at Anfield. Goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah earned Liverpool a crucial three points to put the hosts back at the summit, two points ahead of Manchester City, who occupied that spot for a couple of hours. Although Pep Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand, Liverpool have done exceedingly well to still remain so close in contention and pile on the pressure on their title rivals that ran away with the Premiership last season.

Sunday’s clash against Chelsea was seemingly the biggest hurdle for Liverpool in their remaining few games until the end of the season, but there was some unnecessary drama that took place before the game. A few days before the clash there was a video that went viral on social media in which Chelsea fans were chanting a song with the lyrics, “Salah is a bomber” in a bar. Salah is a Muslim and has sparked outrage among the Islamic community, but there were also concerns as to how the Liverpool striker would react to such taunts.”

But his reaction was nothing short of world class as he sent a rocket of a shot in the top corner of the net in the second half of the game against Chelsea. The 26-year-old then celebrated in a yoga pose after his goal and his teammate Andrew Robertson has now had his say on the events that took place.

While speaking to Standard Sport, the Scottish full-back praised Salah for his attitude and behavior, “There was a bit of stuff that had gone on in the week and that’s the way to shut them up. The club released a statement on the day and Mo was fine with it. It’s not nice but he dealt with it. It didn’t affect him at all – it didn’t look like it, did it?”

Robertson went on to add that Salah has now silenced those racist fans with his stunning goal, “Sadly people are getting used to things like this now because it is happening far too often. Raheem Sterling said the other day that the only way to shut people like this up is to score goals and to beat them (their team). I know it is only a minority of Chelsea fans but Mo certainly quietened them down.”

He further explained, “It was a fantastic goal. He cut inside and clearly fancied his chances. As soon as he hit it, everyone knew that it was in. The place went wild and fair play to him.  He has come under a bit of criticism (for his performances) this season, unfairly in my opinion. But that will silence them too and hopefully, that will give him a lot of confidence going into the final games.”
