Manchester United Boss Solskjaer Insists He Has A Plan For The Club

According to the latest reports, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he wants to promote young players in the English side instead of making massive summer signings in the upcoming summer transfer window. Solskjaer also spoke about the other players in his squad and how they have to sit and figure out the best position for each player is on the pitch.

Manchester United was in an absolute shambles early on in the season when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club. The Portuguese manager wasn’t able to get the desired results with Manchester United and was therefore sacked in December and replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The 46-year-old boss strung together a bunch of positive results in the Premier League and got United competing for a top-four spot once again. Solskjaer also guided United to the Champions League quarter-finals after a dramatic win against Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, overcoming a 2-0 deficit and going on to win 3-1 at the Parc Des Princes.

These impressive results gave Solskjaer the United job on a permanent basis but it has not been smooth sailing ever since. The Red Devils were dumped out of the Champions League by Spanish giants Barcelona over two legs in the quarterfinals of the elite tournament. A hammering at the hands of Merseyside club Everton also put the Champions League berth in jeopardy for United. Solskjaer knows that he has a massive task up ahead of him with the job that he has taken and has insisted that he wants to promote youth instead of making a massive splash in the summer transfer window.

While speaking to reporters, the 46 year old said that there won’t be more than six players that United will recruit in the upcoming summer transfer window: “I do not think you can expect six players to come in – I know there won’t be six players coming in, I can not just take players in because we need a body. Mason Greenwood is a player for me – he is 17 and I want to give him the chance to become a top player at this club. It was the same with Marcus Rashford at 21 and Diogo Dalot at 20. These players are going to get a chance and that is going to affect players who are at the other end of their careers. It means you do not want too many changes with signings and you have to say to players at the other end of their careers: “I do not think you are for me.”

Solskjaer also opened up on his other players at the club, including Paul Pogba, Eric Bailey, Juan Mata, and Matteo Darmian: “Everyone has got an opinion on Paul and of course, together with him we have sat down to discuss his positioning. We know he can play a 10, we know he can play a six, we know he can play in probably his preferred position as one of the three in midfield, high like he did for us at the beginning and as he has done with Juventus.  With France, he has played as one of the two sitters, or one of the two central midfielders, with N’Golo Kante. So that was a great thing with Paul. He can do both and that’s what we have to do with all the players that are adjusting to the game and what that game needs. You can see teams now thinking more about what Paul’s position is and trying to stop him in that position. Matteo Darmian, Eric Bailly and Juan Mata could also depart for Solskjaer to free up room for his ‘kids’.”
