Manchester United Taking A Big Chance With David De Gea, Here’s How

According to the latest reports Premier League giants, Manchester United are taking a massive gamble on the possibility of allowing star goalkeeper David De Gea leave for free in the next summer transfer window. The Spanish star is yet to agree to a new deal with the Red Devils and if his situation is not sorted out, De Gea could leave the club for free next season.

Manchester United was in quite a shambles earlier in the season when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club. The Portuguese boss instilled a very defensive minded philosophy into the club and that did not go down well with the Manchester United faithful. The 56-year-old was unable to get the results as well and with his football lacking any sort of conviction; the writing was on the wall for Mourinho. Arch rivals Liverpool hammered the final nail in the coffin for the ‘Special One’ and he was fired just a few days later.

The Red Devils then turned towards a familiar face in the form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to take over the reins at least until the end of the season. But the Norwegian has exceeded expectations and guided Manchester United to the quarterfinals of the Champions League overcoming Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain in the process. United are now still in hot contention to finish inside the top four and play Champions League football next season.

Now Solskjaer has been given the Manchester United job on a permanent basis and he has to decide how he wants to set up his team in order to win trophies and compete for major honors in the near future. However, Solskjaer also has to keep hold of his best players and one of them is David De Gea. The Spanish shot-stopper is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world and his current contract with Manchester United ends next summer. There is no doubt that United want to keep hold of the 28-year-old who joined the club back in 2011, but the issue lies within the contract details.

Recent reports claim that De Gea was under the impression that he would be on par with teammate Alexis Sanchez’ wage rate which is £450,000 a week, but United are not prepared to offer De Gea the same amount of wages as they have plans for the summer recruitment.

United are reportedly prepared to offer De Gea a £350,000 a week contract on a five-year deal but the Spanish number one between the sticks is not ready to agree to those terms. This miscommunication has caused a stall in the contract agreements and other European suitors are closely monitoring this situation.

If Manchester United fail to extend De Gea’s contract, he will be able to leave on a free transfer next season. La Liga giants Real Madrid and even Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on De Gea at the moment. United will have to do all that they can to make sure they tie down De Gea at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.
