Aaron Ramsey continued on his merry way as he inspired Arsenal to a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at the Emirates. With the win, the Gunners solidify their bid for top four finish this season as they are currently sitting in the third position. Arsenal were the dominant side throughout the game as Newcastle had a few half chances on some occasions. It was Aaron Ramsey’s perfectly placed ground shot which sneaked in to break the deadlock at the 30th minute. The departing midfielder has been in superb touch in last few matches and it is certain the Arsenal fans will him the Welshman who is heading to Turin this summer.
It was Alexandre Lacazette who doubled the lead and put the game out of bounds for the Magpies, who had a few chances and even threatened the Arsenal defence at times. The French forward scored the insurance goal on the 83rd minute securing all three points for the Gunners which saw them rise to the third spot in the Premier League table.
3. Rafa Benitez’s future at Newcastle United
The Magpies weren’t totally outclassed against Arsenal but with seven points clear from the relegation zone Rafa Benitez’s men will be feeling safe than the others. However, Mike Ashley should look to invest more on the side and bring in some new players to help the club regain their lost glory. There is also a lot of uncertainty about Rafa Benitez’s future at the St. James Park and if the squad gets stronger the Spanish tactician get persuaded to stay for longer at the helm. Especially with players like Saloman Rondon, Miguel Almiron, Ayoze Perez etc new players will only make the Magpies stronger.
2. Lacazette and Aubameyang are better together
Alexander Lacazette led the lines for the Gunners with Pierre Emerick Aubameyang starting from the bench due to fatigue from his recent international fixture with Gabon. The French forward came agonizingly close to scoring as Matt Ritchie came up with a last-ditch block right on the goal line.
However, things went to the next level when Aubameyang was introduced by Unai Emery and things definitely started to fall in place with Lacazette moving to his usual role. Both the strikers compliment each other really well and with both of them playing together the Gunners front-line looks like a well-oiled machine. As a result, Lacazette connected well with the former Dortmund man and slotted in the second goal to seal the win and three crucial points for the Gunners.
1. Aaron Ramsey once again showcased what Arsenal will be missing next season
The departing Welshman was the shining light for the Gunners and it will be heartbreaking for the Arsenal fans to see their favourite star leave Emirates next season. Unai Emery men will definitely know his worth next season once he is gone to Juventus.
The midfielder dominated proceeding and completely nullified the Newcastle midfield as he dictated terms throughout the game. The Welshman boasted 97% passing accuracy with 87 touches in the game and also led the troops from the front donning the armband and scoring a scintillating goal to hand Arsenal a crucial lead in the first half. It will difficult for the Spanish tactician to replace the 28-year old midfielder once he gone to Juventus next season.
